The
first set of fixtures had been completed so it
was quickly on to Round 2. The opening game of
the round saw Jackson's 5 taking on AAK S&S.
Jackson's
5's were making their second eurofootballfives.com
appearance. They featured for the first time at
the 2016 Amsterdam Fives as Retainers Academy.
Here in Lisbon they had an increased touring group
with two teams – Jackson's 5's was that second
team. In Amsterdam last year, from their 4 group
games they claimed 2 wins and 2 defeats (one against
the eventual winners and one against the 2016
Krakow Trophy runners-up). It meant they finished
third and qualified for Cup as one of the top
two third placed finishers. There was an 11 goal
thriller in the Cup Quarter-Finals but they went
out 8-3.
They
lost in their first fixture here and were facing
a first game winner in AAK S&S. Interestingly,
AAK S&S had won their opening fixture on every
eurofootballfives.com appearance to date. They
had a mixed record in following up the first game
win with a second game win in the 2011 Amsterdam
Fives but a second game defeat at the 2014 Amsterdam
Fives.
It
was to be a repeat of 2014 for AAK S&S as
Jackson's 5's bounced back with a first win of
the day. Goals from William Sambrook and Adry
Alonso helped them on their way to all three points.
There was also a clean sheet for Mauro Hernandez
Cardenal.
Wonderleague
had looked good in their opening game against
Pangare FC but eventually slipped to defeat. They
were looking to bounce back against Lun-don FC.
Lun-don FC themselves were also looking to avenge
opening game defeat (against AAK S&S).
Lun-don
C (Eng) competed at the 2016 Barcelona Fives and
were made up from much of the Athletico de Leave
squad. The team struggled in Group D with just
a draw to their name that saw them eliminated
at the end of the group phase. They had already
looked more competitive in their opening fixture
here so could they take that on and get a positive
result here.
It
was always going to be tough against a Wonderleague
side who looked like they could be a team to watch
for this tournament (despite opening game defeat).
The Portuguese team lived up to that billing as
goals from Dom J Tavares and Rui Miguel Bastos
secured the points.
Wonderleague
were up and running in Group B. Lun-don FC still
had 5 more group games to get their tournament
campaign on track.
On
Pitch B we had two first game victors coming head
to head. FC Seagrave had picked up a good 3-1
win over Jackson's 5's whilst Cruz Del Sur A had
swept to a 3-0 win over Tommie's Guns. It was
early days but the two teams had made an encouraging
start to the tournament.
Cruz
Del Sur A were continuing their good form from
their most recent eurofootballfives.com appearance
at the 2016 Riga Tournament. In the group phase
in Latvia they posted a perfect 100% record with
5 wins from 5 games. They scored 12 goals and
conceded just 3 along the way.
FC
Seagrave were unable to stop the Cruz Del Sur
A juggernaut as Tom Obafemi scored for the second
game in a row to put his team in the ascendency.
Cruz Del Sur A were then awarded a penalty which
Lewis Henson tucked away for 2-0. Tom Obafemi
made it 3-0 and the destination of the points
were secure.
FC
Seagrave would have the final word though with
Danny King's third of the tournament only proving
to be a consolation.
To
complete Round 2 we had Tommie's Guns versus Pangare
Futebol Clube on Pitch B. The latter had picked
up a good win in the opening round and so a second
victory here would see them join Cruz Del Sur
A at the summit of Group B.
We
previewed Tommie's Guns in Round 1 and saw that
they won the 2015 Berlin Fives Plate last time
out. It would be very difficult for them to repeat
that feat as they had a couple of late withdrawals
from the squad and some injuries to contend with.
It meant they had to press a couple of their non-playing
tour members into action.
It
was far from ideal for Tommie's Guns and they
found Pangare Futebol Clube in ruthless mood.
Denilson Jesus put Pangare ahead and thereafter
Tommie's Guns needed divine intervention but they
didn't get it. William Junior added a brace before
Victor Spaghol made it 4-0. Pangare Futebol Clube
were not yet finished as Celio Silva added two
more for good measure to round off a 6-0 victory.
