It was crunch time in Group A and Round 5 started with The Special Ones versus Compact Records. It was the game between the team third in the table against the team sixth in the table. The game had a lot at stake for Compact Records they needed to win and better the result of Talhos Mariete and hope FC Miracle lost their final game. The Hungarians had a goal difference of +14 compared to Compact Record's +7 so it would need to be a big win. A draw would be ok to qualify for the Cup as long as Talhos Mariete failed to win their final game.

The Special Ones could no longer qualify for the Cup. Although they were only 3 points behind Telferscot Athletic and Saga Louts these two teams would play each other next so the best The Special Ones could do was finish fifth. With the pressure off The Special Ones took the lead through Jamie Barnett – their second goal in eurofootballfives.com action. Not only did The Special Ones take the lead but they retained it until half-time.

Sadly for The Special Ones it would not last. Compact Records came from behind in their opening game and were to do so again here. The team from Porto equalized through Hilario Aivis and then moved ahead through Fernando Palmcil. Bruno Oliveira made it 3-1 and took the game away from The Special Ones. Hilario Aivis rounded off the scoring at 4-1. Would it be enough for Compact Records though?

Game 14 in Group A saw Saga Louts host Telferscot Athletic. Saga Louts had just picked up their first win and had done so comprehensively, 5-0. Telferscot Athletic had suffered 3 successive defeats since their opening win. The two teams had shared victories against The Special Ones and lost to each of FC Miracle, Compact Records and Talhos Mariete. This game was effectively a straight shoot-out for fourth position and the second Plate qualification place.

The two teams were separated only by goal difference and it was Saga Louts who were ahead -5 compared to -10 so a draw would suit them. However, it was Telferscot Athletic who took the lead with Joe Lambert scoring his first of the tournament. The goal helped Telferscot Athletic to a 1-0 lead at the break.

After the break Telferscot Athletic doubled the lead with the help of what the referee credited as an own goal. At 2-0 Saga Louts had it all to do. Richard Holliday's fourth goal of the tournament reduced arrears to 2-1 but it ultimately proved to be too little too late as the game finished at 2-1.

The result meant that Telferscot Athletic had qualified for the Plate with Saga Louts eliminated.

The 15th and final game of Group A was FC Miracle versus Talhos Mariete. At the start of Round 4 these two teams were first and second. As things stood before kick-off, with Compact Record's win, the teams were first and third. What did the two teams need to do?

FC Miracle: A win would see them complete the Group A win with a 100% record. A draw would see them win Group A and they could even afford a three goal defeat and still win the group.

Talhos Mariete: They had to win to make it a three team tie on 12 points. If they could then they would knock Compact Records down into third position. Talhos Mariete would qualify for the Cup as a result. A 2-0 win would see them finish level with FC Miracle (both with 14 scored, 2 against) and win Group A on head-to-head results. A bigger win would see them win Group A on goal difference.

FC Miracle looked to have met their match in this game. This was their most competitive game yet and the two teams matched each other blow for blow in the opening period. Neither teams could find a route to goal and we entered the interval level at 0-0.

In the second half Alexandre Teixeira became the first man to score against FC Miracle today. After 4 clean sheets, Marton Rekli was finally beaten. The goal proved to be the only goal of the game as Talhos Mariete won 1-0.

In the end 3 teams finished on 12 points. FC Miracle won the group on goal difference with Talhos Mariete joining them in the Cup. Compact Records can consider themselves very unlucky to miss out but they would play in the Plate competition this afternoon.
