Our thirteenth ever Trophy Final now awaited us and we had been treated to some superb Finals before. It was Audley Witney versus Hotpockets.

Many of them had been very close with 6 of the previous 12 going to penalties In Valencia 2012, Sporting Abeergut held off a late rally from FC Dad to win it 3-2. At the 2014 Budapest Fives, Contejus Hurricanes (with a man sent off) held on to a close 2-1 win over Cava Sundays.

They had all been close affairs until 2014 when we saw Ziar Crew beat Fireball 5-1 in Bratislava and Elcombe Old Boys beat SV Zoo 5-0 in Barcelona. These remain the highest scoring Trophy Finals. We have had Trophy winners from Belgium, England, Ireland, Latvia, Oman, Slovakia and Spain.

If we were looking for a form guide as a clue to how this final might go then here it is:

The stage was set and both teams were ready to go – who would be picking up the winners medals in the presentation?

Hotpockets came into the game in particularly good form having scored 15 goals and conceded just 2 in the Quarters and Semis but it was Audley Witney who broke the deadlock. Paul Merchant scored his second of the day to put his side ahead. Ian Goodwin then made it 2-0 as they were in cruise control.

John Gray opened up the game to make it 2-1 before Audley Witney re-asserted their lead thanks to Eddie Stevens. There were goals in this Hotpockets team as Pa O'Brien scored his 15 th of the day to bring the Irish within touching distance again.

Audley Witney enjoyed a two goal advantage again when Matt Eagle scored for 4-2. There was no doubt once Eddie Stevens bagged his ninth of the tournament to make it 5-2 to Audley Witney.

Our commiserations go to Hotpockets who gave it a real go and were excellent in the knock-out phase having performed well in a tight group. They collected Runners Up medals. Pa O'Brien would enjoy personal success as he collected the top scorer award.

For today though, we present you the 2018 Gdansk Tournament Trophy Winners– many congratulations to Audley Witney. Enjoy the Trophy, enjoy the medals, enjoy the success, enjoy the rest of your time in this great city!
