As we entered the final Round of games we started with a big fixture in terms of Plate qualification. It was fourth placed Hotpockets (Ire) against sixth placed FC Dad (Eng). Hotpockets had to avoid defeat and equal/better the result of Spider Mans to secure a place in the Plate. They could potentially finish third if they won, Freshers FC lost and there was a 5-goal swing in goal difference. Defeat for the Irish could potentially mean a place in the Trophy subject to goal difference.

The equation for FC Dad was quite simple – win. They could draw level with Hotpockets on 4 points with a win. A 1 goal win would see them finish higher on head to head record. A larger win would see them go above on goal difference. FC Dad could make the Plate if they won and Spider Mans failed to win their final game. If Spider Mans drew their final fixture then FC Dad would have the better goal difference.

The omens were good early on for FC Dad as they opened the scoring for the second game in a row. Graham Dodds, who scored their first of the day, was back on the scoresheet to give his team the lad. As with the previous fixture though, they were unable to retain that lead and conceded an equaliser – Pa O'Brien on target for Hotpockets.

There was to be a third and decisive goal in the game. It was Graham Dodds who scored it for FC Dad as they ran out 2-1 victors. It meant the two teams finished with identical records – 4 points, 6 goals scored, 8 conceded. FC Dad would finish above their opponents courtesy of this win in the head-to-head record. It meant Hotpockets would definitely play Trophy football this afternoon. FC Dad would have to wait for the result of the Spider Mans game to see if they had done enough to reach the Plate.

FC Dad would not have to wait long to realise their fate as Spider Mans & Eagle were up next against FC Foreigntina. Let's see what was at stake:

Spider Mans & Eagle: The English team needed to win to qualify for the Plate in fourth position. A draw would mean 3 teams level on 4 points but Spider Mans would finish bottom due to goal difference. Defeat would naturally also leave them in sixth.

FC Foreigntina: Started the round in second position. A win would guarantee them Cup qualification. A draw would be enough if Freshers FC failed to win their last game. Defeat would be ok as long as Freshers FC also lost their game. FC Foreigntina could win Group D if they won and Alea Iacta Est failed to win.

Spider Mans & Eagle had struggled today relative to other tournaments but they appeared to regain some form in the early stages of this tie. Richard Eggleston and Alistair Stewart both on target to give them a commanding 2-0 lead. Although commanding, it wasn't a winning lead as FC Foreigntina hit back. Joao Puga had been a bit of a star for his team today and he bagged a hat-trick to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 victory.

The result consigned Spider Mans & Eagle to the Trophy competition. The win for FC Foreigntina confirmed their place in the Cup but would they go through as group winners?

That left us with Alea Iacta Est versus Freshers FC to conclude proceedings in Group D. With 14 out of 15 games completed these two teams knew exactly what they needed to do.

For Freshers FC it was all a bit academic as they were marooned in third position. They were comfortably ahead of those behind but FC Foreigntina's win in the previous game meant second position and a place in the Cup was now beyond them regardless of this result.

There was more at stake for Alea Iacta Est. Defeat would see them finish a point behind FC Foreigntina. A draw would see them go level with equal goal difference but miss out on the Group win unless the draw was 6-6 or higher. If the game finished 5-5 then FC Foreigntina would finish with identical records and identical goals for & against. As the two teams drew 2-2 we would need the toss of a coin to see who would finish first and second. Alea Iacta Est could make that all redundant by winning the game and winning Group D in style.

Alea Iacta Est had tightened up at the back the last couple of games and kept two clean sheets but they would not keep a third. Alex Zammitt scored the opening goal in this game for Freshers FC. Alea Iacta Est were unbeaten so far today and a goal from Kuba Dabrowski would help them maintain that record.

The game finished 1-1 which meant FC Foreigntina would be crowned Group D winners with Alea Iacta Est following them into the Cup. Freshers FC would go into the Plate as one of the teams to watch for glory.
