It was Cup Final time in Poland. After 80 games of football we came down to the most important of them all. Game 81, the match that would determine the 2018 Gdansk Tournament champions.

The two teams on show were Bulota PK and Northern Town FC. Both teams had earned and deserved their places in the Cup Final.

Bulota PK

Played 7, Won 7

Goal difference: +34 (37-3)

Top Scorer: Lukasz Abrysynski, 13.

Clean sheets: 5

Games unbeaten: 7

Northern Town

Played 7, Won 6, Lost 1

Goal difference: +13 (22-9)

Top Scorer: Campbell McAuley, 9.

Clean sheets: 3

Games unbeaten: 3

These two teams had met earlier today in Group C and on that occasion it was Bulota PK who were victorious, 3-2. A repeat would clearly be just what the doctor ordered for Bulota PK. Could Northern Town FC exact their revenge though?

The game itself was played with a great atmosphere as the other teams all assembled pitch-side to watch the show-piece game of the day. The statistics certainly made Bulota PK the favourites but there appeared to be little between the two teams on the field of play. The game was very evenly contested as the teams largely cancelled each other out. Goal mouth chances were few and far between. The teams reached half-time level at 0-0.

The longer the game remained at 0-0 the more it looked like the first goal might win it. When Lukasz Abryszynski scored his fourteenth goal of the tournament to make it 1-0 that could well have been it. Northern Town FC were made of strong stuff though and they hit back almost immediately. Niall Dunning was the man to equalize. There was to be no further addition to the score as we finished at 1-1.

The 2018 Gdansk Tournament would be decided with a penalty shoot-out.

It was Bulota PK who would go first. Andrzej Mechlinski was up first and he duly converted for 1-0. Campbell McAuley was the first man for Northern Town and he rolled the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the net for 1-1. Lukasz Abryszysinski was the second top scorer in the tournament today and he made no mistake as he placed the ball into the left corner for 2-1. Chris Slewin was the second man up for Northern Town FC and he will have been relieved to see his penalty go under the goalkeeper for 2-2.

In the final round of regulation penalties it was Dariusz Frost for Bulota PK to take on Stephen Brennan in goal for Northern Town FC. It was a poor penalty from the Polish man as the ball soared high and wide. Dariusz Frost would try and make amends for his error by taking the goalkeeping gloves from regular goalkeeper Pawel Dobieglewski – a bold and interesting tactical decision. Niall Dunning was the man who had the opportunity to apply the final touch in today's event. He duly obliged as he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Our sincere commiserations to Bulota PK who had come so close to glory but just missed out. It was a superb day's play from them but it was just not meant to be though.

Our congratulations go to Northern Town FC on a superb debut victory in eurofootballfives.com action. Very well done to everyone involved!
