Round 2 started with Freshers FC versus FC Dad. The former had picked up a draw in the first game and were looking to kick on. The latter had suffered a narrow defeat and were looking to bounce back and make early advances on the road to Cup qualification.

FC Dad were playing in the Baltic region for the second time in our tournaments. Their previous visit to the region was their most successful when they excelled at the 2016 Riga Tournament. They recorded their highest group finish (2nd of 6-teams) with 3 wins, 1 draw and just 1 defeat. They qualified for the Cup for the first time and in the Quarter-Finals took the scalp of Cruz Del Sur A, 1-0. Their epic journey ended at the Semi-Final stage where 3x eurofootballfives.com winners, L'Albiceleste, prevented them reaching a first Cup final.

It was Freshers FC who took the lead here thanks to Joe Trigg. Ben McNamee responded for FC Dad who equalized to make it 1-1. The pendulum swung back to Freshers FC as Oliver Rossiter and Nick Sheehy opened up a 3-1 advantage.

Calum Jones pulled one pack to make it 3-2 but, sadly for FC Dad, it was a second defeat for his team but both defeats were by the odd goal and in games they were highly competitive in. There was more to come from them we were sure.

FC Foreigntina were up next as they took on Hotpockets.

Hotpockets were from the Deportivo Dooradoyle stable who made their debut at the 2011 Amsterdam Fives. They reached the Plate Final and experienced a narrow defeat in the final to Rigford Seahawks (also 2009 Krakow Trophy & 2012 Berlin Fives Cup winners and 2009 Prague Trophy Plate winners). In the 2012 Algarve Open they drew a tough group and finished 4th to make the Plate again. Their day ended against French side CFC B at the Quarter-Final stage on this occasion.

In 2013, Barcelona was their destination of choice where they had a very successful day – they entered two teams and won both the Plate and Trophy competitions. Berlin was the destination of choice for 2014 and it was almost more success as they reached the Plate Final again. A tough fought 0-0 draw lead to a penalty shoot-out and Scandittack FC of Germany won the shoot-out 2-0. The 2015 Algarve Open saw two injury ravaged squads finish 5th and 6th in their groups before a Wooden Spoon win and a Plate Quarter-Finals defeat.

At the 2015 Barcelona Fives, they looked to repeat their Barcelona success of 2013 when they competed as Depo Legends (Ire) and The Alabama Hotpockets (Ire). Depo Legends won two and lost two to finish third in Group D and qualify for the Plate. They defeated Saladmode FC 2-1 in the Quarter-Finals before their day was ended (1-0) by Hardly Athletic. The Alabama Hotpockets were sensational in the group phase with 3 wins and 1 draw to top Group C with 10 points. In the Cup, they defeated Freshers FC (2-1) and then drew with Elcombe Old Boys 1-1. They won 3-2 on penalties against the team who would be champions 12 months later. The Alabama Hotpockets just ran out of steam against Club Esportiu Llefia when they went down 5-0 in the Cup Final.

2017 saw a third trip to the Barcelona Fives where they competed with 2 teams again – Deportivo Dooradoyle and Deportivo 2.0. The former finished 7 th of 8 teams in Group A. Deportivo 2.0 produced 4 wins as they claimed 4 th position in Group D. They qualified for the Plate but went out 3-2 to Krakowcaine.

FC Foreigntina were on debut so their eurofootballfives.com CV was still to be written. Having come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 in Round 1 they continued their form here. The Polish team made it 2-0 through Yaniv Rosenberg and Paul Evans. FC Foreigntina were on the receiving end this time as Hotpockets hit back to make it 2-2 (Brian Kelleher, Pa O'Brien).

FC Foreigntina regained the upper hand though and bagged a winner thanks to a Rob Clark strike. It was 4 points from 6 for FC Foreigntina.

To complete Round 2 we had Alea Iacta Est versus Spider Mans & Eagle.

This time last year at the 2017 Barcelona Fives Spider Mans & Eagle were storming the group phase. 6 wins and 1 draw saw them take 19 points from a possible 21 with a +17 goal difference. They had started off well here in Gdansk with a 2-1 victory over FC Dad.

Alea Iacta Est had started off with an entertaining 2-2 draw and were looking to get their first three points on the board. Things started off well for the Polish as they established a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Pedro Silveira and Michal Sklodowski.

Spider Mans then embarked on a bit of a comeback. Barney Wilde scored 6 goals at the 2018 Riga Tournament in May and he was up and running for the day here in Gdansk as he made it 2-1. Ryan Stevens was Spider Mans & Eagle's top scorer in Europe – he scored for the second game in a row to take his eurofootballfives.com career total to 41 goals.

At 2-2 the game was in the balance but we were to get a winner. It was Konrad Kawka who claimed the glory as his goal proved to be decisive. Final score, 3-2 to Alea Iacta Est.
