Fail Madrid (Eng)

Fail Madrid made their debut at the 2015 Berlin Fives. They finished 5th in their group and were unlucky to do so with a goal difference of just -3 so they were competitive throughout. They qualified for the Plate and picked up a 1-0 win over Coverton Road before a 1-1 draw with Tommie's Guns in the Semi-Finals. Their tournament ended here though after a 3-2 penalty shoot-out defeat.

Their next eurofootballfives.com adventure took them to the 2016 Riga Tournament. They started off with a 3-2 win over Latvian team Aliance before defeat to eventual champions L'Albiceleste. They then finished the group with 3 draws in a row which slowed their progress up the table. A fourth place finish earned them a berth in the Plate competition. In the Quarter-Finals, a fourth draw in a row against Zemniecki meant penalties would decide their fate. The Latvian side won 2-1 on spot-kicks and Fail Madrid were out.

From Riga to Barcelona for their next adventure at the 2017 Barcelona Fives – this time with two squads. Fail Madrid 1 finished with 1 win and 2 draws in Group D as they finished 7 th . Fail Madrid 2 fared a little better with 2 wins and 1 draw as they finished 6 th in Group B which saw them qualify for the Trophy. They were eliminated in the Quarter-Finals by Leek High Boys.

Here in Gdansk they slipped to defeat in the opening game and faced a tough prospect to get points on the board in Round 2. Their opponents were Lilchicago who had qualified for the Cup in every tournament they had played with us and already had a win under their belts. Aurimas Marcinkevicius made it 1-0 to them but Robert Maller struck back to make it 1-1. If Fail Madrid could take points from this game it would be a superb result.

It wasn't to be though as a further strike from Aurimas Marcinkevicius and a goal from Ernestas Bartekevicius ensured the Lithuanians would end up with win #2.

Due to the fixture re-arrangements, the final team to get underway were Bede FC. They had sadly had to wait a while to get their 8th eurofootballfives.com appearance underway. They would start against FC Maroon who had claimed a 2-0 win over Fail Madrid in Round 1.

FC Maroon were enjoying a really strong run of form in the group phase of our tournaments. They finished their group at the 2016 Riga Tournament with a 0-0 draw and a 10-0 win. At the 2017 Mallorca Fives they produced 4 wins and 1 draw with a goal difference of 6-0. Including the win in Round 1 today they had gone 8 group games unbeaten with 18 goals and 0 conceded.

It looked like Bede FC would have their work cut out and so it proved. FC Maroon were in ominous form as they took the lead through Ed Brangwin and never looked back. Max Hill made it 2-0, Ed Brangwin completed his hat-trick to make it 3-0 and then 4-0. The final word was Matt Alawi's who converted to make it 5-0.

That unbeated record in the group phase was extended and they topped the table.

The final game of Round 2 was RAF Fylingdales versus Fail Madrid. Both teams were playing their third fixture of the day. RAF Fylingdales were looking to add to their 3 points, Fail Madrid were looking to get off the mark. What followed was an absolute classic as the teams treated us to 8 goals.

It was RAF Fylingdales who made the initial breakthrough courtesy of James Martin. For the second game in a row Fail Madrid came from a goal down to level things up at 1-1 with Graham Hargraves bagging the equaliser. For the second game in a row they fell behind again with Leigh Webb putting his team 2-1 up. Graham Hargraves was on the score-sheet for a second time as parity was restored at 2-2. It got even better for Fail Madrid as they hit the front through James Boshier.

It was RAF Fylingdales who now needed to come from behind and they found an equaliser through Christopher Grainger. His team hit the front for the third time when Jim Williams made it 4-3. For the first time in the match there was a two goal cushion when Christopher Grainger found the net for the second time.

At 5-3 the scoring was over . It was a great game and RAF Fylingdales had their second successive win that took them level on points with FC Maroon and Lilchicago.
