The
penultimate game would be RAF Fylingdales versus
FC Maroon. This was a straight shootout for
second position and the second Cup qualification
berth. The two teams were locked together on
9 points from a possible 12. As things stood
FC Maroon needed just a draw as they had a goal
difference of 11-4. RAF Fylingdales had a goal
difference of 8-6 so had to win.
FC
Maroon were bidding to qualify for the Cup for
the second successive tournament having won
their group at the 2017 Mallorca Fives. Things
started off well as they established a 2-0 lead
thanks to goals from Max Hill and Matt Alawi.
The
pendulum of the game then swung the other way
as Jim Williams pulled a goal back for RAF Fylingdales.
The comeback was complete when Adam Brennan
equalized. Leigh Webb then put RAF Fylingdales
3-2 up before Adam Brennan gave them a cushion
at 4-2.
The
game was not over yet as James Smith bagged
his third of the tournament to make it 4-3.
Time ran out for FC Maroon as they slipped to
third position to qualify for the Plate. Well
done to RAF Fylingdales who finished in a lofty
second position.
