Last but not least, we come to Group D where the group began with two experienced eurofootballfives.com teams taking to the field. We had FC Dad making appearance number 8 and Spider Mans & Eagle making appearance number 10. Their travels over the years had taken them to many of the same tournament destinations but this was the first time they had appeared at the same event.

The zenith of FC Dad's achievements so far had been a Cup Semi-Final whilst Spider Mans & Eagle had gone one step further and reached a Cup Final but finished runners-up.

It was Spider Mans & Eagle who got off to the best possible start as Ali Stewart scored his team's opener. Ryan Stevens, ever-present for all 10 of Spider Mans appearances added a second goal to put his side 2-0 up.

FC Dad were not defeated just yet as they halved the deficit to 2-1 thanks to a Graham Dodds goal. Spider Mans had enough in the tank though as they saw out a 2-1 victory.

Match 2 in Group D saw Hotpockets (Ire) versus Freshers (Eng).

These two teams met all the way back at the 2015 Barcelona Fives. Both teams had performed well that day and qualified for the Cup where they met in the Quarter-Finals. Hotpockets (playing as Alabama Hotpockets) won Group C with 10 points from 12. Freshers FC were 2nd in Group B with 2 wins and a draw from their four games.

When they met in that Quarter-Final Alabama Hotpockets won 2-1 on their way to a Runners-Up finish. Hotpockets had 3 members of their 2015 squad here in Gdansk, Freshers FC had 2 survivors from that tour.

Here in 2018 it was Hotpockets who took the lead through Pa O'Brien. Oliver Rossiter equalised for Freshers FC to make it 1-1. The points were shared as both teams got off to a solid start.

The last two teams to get underway were FC Foreigntina versus Alea Iacta Est. It was Poland versus Poland. Not only that but it was Warsaw versus Warsaw as both teams had travelled from the capital to the coast of Gdansk for today's event.

Both teams were making their eurofootballfives.com debut so this would be our first glimpse of the two clubs in action. It was Alea Iacta Est who made the first impression as they took the lead. Konrad Kawka was the man to break the deadlock. It got even better for them when they doubled the lead thanks to Michal Sklosowski.

FC Foreigntina hit back as Joao Puga reduced the arrears to 2-1. They then completed their comeback when Yaniv Rosenberg equalized to make it 2-2.

Only time would tell if this was a point gained for each team or two points lost. For Alea Iacta Est, having been 2-0 up, you would have thought this would feel like points dropped.
