Group D was really hotting up as we entered Round 4 and it was a big game for FC Foreigntina. They had performed well this morning and taken 7 points out of a possible 9. They were 1 of 4 teams fighting for the 2 Cup qualification places and so needed to keep their good run going.

FC Dad can consider themselves unfortunate to be pointless to date – 3 defeats all by the odd goal. Their 3 defeats in the group phase of the 2017 Mallorca Fives were all by a 1-0 scoreline. The common factor in all those games was they conceded the opening goal. In Mallorca where they scored first, they won and won convincingly, 4-0 and 5-1.

It will have been a boon to FC Dad that it was they who opened the scoring in this game. Calum Jones was the man on target. That goal was a thorn in the side of FC Foreigntina but they recovered to hit back and equalize thanks to the goal-scoring prowess of Joao Puga. Final score, 1-1.

The draw was not the worst result in the world for FC Foreigntina but it did give hope to the chasing pack. For FC Dad it was a good point and got them on the board. It gave them hope of reaching the Plate going into the final round of results.

At the start of Round 4, Polish team Alea Iacta Est were our league leaders on goal difference and they remained unbeaten. They were up against Hotpockets of Ireland who had 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss to their name so far.

This was certainly the closest group so although Alea Iacta Est were currently riding high they could take nothing for granted. The best goal difference after Round 3 was +2 and the worst was -3. All the teams were proving well matched and it was fine margins producing the winners & losers from each fixture.

This game epitomised how close Group D was as there was only one goal in it. It was the team from Warsaw who scored it. Pedro Silveira was the hero whose goal helped earn all 3 points. He was ably assisted by goalkeeper Pawel Szymanski and his defence who kept their second clean sheet of the day.

Alea Iacta Est moved 2 points clear at the top of the table. Hotpockets remained in fourth position.

That left us with the final two teams yet to play their fourth fixture – Spider Mans & Eagle and Freshers FC.

Spider Mans & Eagle were making their second appearance at one of our Polish tournaments. Their first was at the 2016 Krakow Trophy and was their most successful event to date. They were impressive from the very start recording a 5-1 win and going on to win all 5 of their group games scoring an amazing 23 goals in the process and conceding just 3. They beat Italy's Football Bassano MMIII in the Quarter-Finals and their own sister squad, Spider Mans & Great Hawk, in the Semi-Finals. It set up an epic battle in the Cup Final against Tinniedad & Tobacco which was won 5-2 by the Tinnies. Today they had 1 win and 2 narrow losses by the odd goal so needed to get back to winning ways.

Freshers FC could also do with the points. They had 4 points from 6 at the start of the day but had just tasted a narrow defeat of their own in Round 3. If they could take 3 points here it would keep them in touch with the leaders going into the final set of fixtures.

Alex Zammitt opened the scoring for Freshers FC to make it 1-0. Spider Mans & Eagle had made initial recoveries in both their previous games having conceded first but they were unable to keep that record going. Freshers FC doubled their lead as Oliver Rossiter made it 2-0. Daniel Murphy extended the lead to 3-0 before Joe Trigg put the icing on a 4-0 cake.
