The
next match in Group B was an intriguing prospect.
ACE & The Swagmen had just drawn 0-0 against
FC Mahou – only the third team to take points
off FC Mahou in 18 games of our Veterans group
phase. An amazing result but this was their
only point to date so they needed to build on
that, ideally with a win. If they could take
victory they would leapfrog their opponents
into third place.
Southgate
County Brewers were their opponents. From their
perspective a win would put them level with
AFC Shooters 1 and just a point behind FC Mahou.
The top 3 would be separated by just 1 point
in a three horse race for the 2 Cup qualification
places.
The
two teams appeared to be well matched and at
half-time there as nothing to separate the two
teams. It was all square at 0-0. After the break
we were to see the deadlock broken. The match
was decided by a solitary goal and that goal
was scored by James Cerveno. It was two wins
on the bounce for the Brewers and they were
looking good.
