The first game of Round 2 saw Galacticos taking on Blue Collar Revolution. Given these two teams records in our tournaments you might be forgiven for thinking that, although early in proceedings, this game could well prove to be an early Group B title contender. Add into the mix both teams won their first games with handsome scorelines and this game could be quite an encounter.

The game itself was not as close as we would have expected (in terms of the score at least). It was “Allez Allez Allez” for Blue Collar Revolution as they took the lead through first game hat-trick hero Hicham Manaa. Honore Boussamba scored a second to give them a bit of breathing space. When Firmin Sylla made it 3-0 it looked like the game was in the bag. Dao de Souza polished off a scintillating performance to make it 4-0.

It was a sensational win for Blue Collar Revolution – not just the win but the margin of victory. To put this into context, Galacticos before this game had played 27 games in the group phase of our tournaments and had only previously lost 2. The French were making an early bid for tournament favourites.

Game 5 of Group B was OS Sadinos versus The Basemen. OS Sadinos had picked up a nice little 1-0 win in their opening game whilst The Basemen were looking to bounce back from an opening defeat to Galacticos.

The Basemen were having a tough time of it in terms of results. At the 2021 Barcelona Fives where they played better than results suggested. They opened up with a 0-0 draw against 2019 Amsterdam Fives winners, Epsilon Rovers. Another 0-0 draw against the eventual group winners Maresmex (Spa) followed. Goals then flowed but they found themselves on the wrong end of 5-goal thrillers losing 3-2 to each of FC Tpaktop (USSR) and FC Maroon (Eng). It meant a 5 th place finish and a wooden spoon game against Sons Les Onze which they won 2-0.

A tough opening fixture here would not have done their confidence much good but we know from their 2018 Lisbon performance they were a better side than these results suggested. They may well have been in need of a confidence boost and they got it with a quality 1-0 win over a quality Portuguese team here. Both teams looked pretty solid defensively and so it was a case of who could prise the opposing team open. Cometh the hour, cometh the man and that man was Jack Utting. A vital goal and 3 points for The Basemen.

The final game of Round 2 was FC Maroon versus Fail Madrid. These teams were both loyal friends of eurofootballfives.com as they were making their 10th and 6th tours with us respectively. It is perhaps no surprise that their paths have crossed before – at the 2018 Gdansk Tournament.

In Gdansk they met for their opening fixture of the tournament and it was FC Maroon who emerged victorious 2-0 with goals from Max Hill and James Smith. The two teams today had largely similar squads to those who participated four years ago but would we get a different result?

With a strange sense of déjà vu we got a repeat of that result from Poland with FC Maroon emerging victorious with another 2-0 win. James Alawi was the man with both goals today as his team put their first 3 points on the board.

With 4 teams locked together on 3 points, FC Maroon were up to 2nd place on goal difference.
