Blue Collar Revolution (Fra)

The second final of the day would see Riises Pieces versus Blue Collar Revolution. With seven games of football (or the equivalent) already under their belt the two teams would need to summon one last burst of energy to ensure they would be picking up winners and not runners-up medals in the presentation.

Let's have a look at the two teams' credentials for the Plate title:

Riises Pieces (Eng)

Record today: Played 6, Won 3, Drawn 1, Lost 2.

Goal difference today: 5-9 (-4)

Current unbeaten run: 2 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Anthony Lenihan (3)

Clean sheets: 2

Blue Collar Revolution (Fra)

Record today: Played 7, Won 5, Drawn 0, Lost 2.

Goal difference today: 19-3 (+16)

Current unbeaten run: 2 games.

Today's top goalscorer: Hicham Manaa (10)

Clean sheets: 5

The stats would make Blue Collar Revolution favourites for this game as they were currently second top scorers in the whole tournament (including the Cup), second best goal difference today (including the Cup) and had the most clean sheets – again of all teams.

Riises Pieces knew that Blue Collar Revolution were beatable though. They had seen their sister squad The Basemen defeat them 2-1 at the end of the group phase. If they could pull off a second such victory then they would go one step further than The Basemen who were runners up at the 2019 Mallorca Fives.

The stage was set, let's get the action underway. After the early exchanges and sparring there was to be no early breakthrough. The two defences held firm and we reached half-time level at 0-0. The first goal was looking increasingly important and when it arrived it went to Dao de Souza of Blue Collar Revolution – his second of the day and certainly the most important.

Riises Pieces had shown great resilience in the Semi-Final to recover from 1-0 down against OS Sadinos. If they were to recover in the Final though they would need to do it from 2-0 drown when Hicham Manaa scored his 11 th of the day. That goal could well have been the killer but Manaa went on to score another to extinguish any hopes of a comeback.

First of all we offer our consolations to Riises Pieces on a fine campaign – close but no cigar for the second time for them. Hopefully third time lucky next time out.

Huge congratulations to our 2022 Lisbon Tournament Plate champions though – Blue Collar Revolution. The stats page would show they were deserving winners.

On a personal level, congratulations to Hicham Manaa who was our golden boot winner today with a fabulous return of 12 goals.
