Each team in Group A had a game under their belts to settle into the tournament. We continued with Les 5 Salopards versus Los Amblos.

Los Amblos (formerly known as Crabtree Amblers) debuted at the 2016 Lisbon Veterans Tournament and it was quite a successful one. In the group phase they finished joint third (fourth on goal difference) as a last match 0-0 draw prevented them taking third place outright. They qualified for the Plate and Semi-Final success ensued as they beat Mavericks 1-0. They were to collect Runners-Up medals in the presentation as they were defeated 2-0 by Pioes in the Plate Final.

They started off pretty well today with a 0-0 draw against the youngest team in the Veterans section, FC Dad. They were up against a French team who came into the game on the back of an opening game victory.

Los Amblos were keeping it tight again with the match still goal-less as we passed the half-way stage but the deadlock was to be broken. In the second half Yanick Jista proved to be the match winner (as he had in Round 1) with his third goal in two games.

Les 5 Salopards won the game 1-0 and were top of the table at the end of Round 2.

The next game was Santa Maria against The Warriors. Both teams were looking for their first points of the day and to avenge opening game defeats.

The Warriors competed here at the 2016 Lisbon Veterans Tournament and enjoyed their best overall performance in our tournaments. They recovered from a 2-0 opening defeat with a draw (1-1 v Mavericks) and then 3 wins (2-1 v Ashtead Vets, 1-0 v WEEDS, 1-0 v Pioes) to finish joint top of Group B (but second on goal difference). They qualified for the Cup competition but went out in the Semi-Finals to the eventual champions Sago.

There were certain parallels beginning to appear here in 2022 as they recovered from opening game defeat with a draw. This time it was a 0-0 draw with both defences on top. Credit to both goalkeepers Nuno Positeiro (Santa Maria) and Matt Elsey (The Warriors) and their defences for a clean sheet.

To keep those parallels going, The Warriors just needed to win their next 3!

FC Dad were making a 12th eurofootballfives.com appearance overall but were competing in the Veterans Tournament for the first time. They had appeared here in Lisbon previously at the 2013 Lisbon Tournament – our inaugural Lisbon competition.

In the 2013 Lisbon Tournament they had a great start with a 2-1 win over Hungary's Csabagyongye (who have won titles in our tournaments before) before they struggled with results but were not outclassed with two narrow defeats. They finished 5th in their 6th team group and missed out on the knock-out stage.

They started off with a solid 0-0 draw against Los Amblos this afternoon but soon found themselves behind against AFC Shooters 2 in Round 2. Eric Origi scored for the second game in a row as he looked to send AFC Shooters 2 to the top of Group A with Les 5 Salopards.

FC Dad had other ideas though as they staged a second half recovery with Ben Mc Namee equalizing. The draw meant AFC Shooters 2 would not share top spot but they were still well placed in the table occupying second position. For FC Dad it was two draws in two games as they sat in third place in the table with just 1 point separating the four teams in third to sixth.
