OS Sadinos versus Blue Collar Revolution was next. OS Sadinos were dealing in binary so far with a 1-0 win followed by two 1-0 defeats. It seemed that they were quite solid defensively but they lacked a bit of a firepower up front. One team who didn't lack firepower was Blue Collar Revolution who had scored 13 goals without reply so far.

In fact, if you look at Blue Collar Revolutions results in the group phase of our tournaments they had played 8, won 8, scored 29 and conceded just 3. It was a hugely impressive record and an ominous task for OS Sadinos.

OS Sadinos continued to be competitive and we went past the half-way stage of this game with the match still deadlocked at 0-0. It looked like Blue Collar Revolution may well drop points for the first time. The French team were unable to find a winner…..

….but the Portuguese team could. It was the biggest shock of the day so far. Diogo Madureira scored the goal that defeated FC Maroon 1-0 and he now also scored the goal that defeated Blue Collar Revolution 1-0.

What an incredible result. A shock for Blue Collar Revolution but they were still top.

The Basemen had a chance to climb above Galacticos (temporarily at least) with a win in their next game that would also put them within 2 points of the league leaders. Their opponents would be FC Maroon. FC Maroon had slipped to fifth in the table but a win here could put them joint second (again possibly temporarily pending Galacticos' fourth game result) so there was much to play for – for both teams.

It was a mere 8 months since these two teams had met at the 2021 Barcelona Fives. They had served up an entertaining 5-goal thriller in Barcelona which FC Maroon won 3-2. One man who would have fond memories of that game would be FC Maroon's Ed Cotter who scored a hat-trick. Both The Basemen's goals were scored by Liam O'Doherty but he was now playing for Riises Pieces.

Back to the action in Lisbon and this one started very well for The Basemen who took the lead through their #8. The Basemen had lead twice in Barcelona before slipping to defeat so when Jack Thomas made it 2-0 they must have been relieved. #88 made it 3-0 for The Basemen and when Ant Chandler made it 4-0 the game was done.

A great win for The Basemen – not just the 3 points but the boost to their goal difference which yet could prove important. A tough day at the office for FC Maroon.

Fail Madrid had just picked up their first point of the day and now they needed their first win of the day to keep hopes alive of reaching the Plate. Anything less and they would be playing Trophy football this afternoon. Their opponents would be Galacticos. Galacticos had the incentive of going joint top with a win as the Cup qualification equation now seemed to be 2 teams from a possible 4.

Galacticos were determined to reach the Cup. They played here in Lisbon at the 2018 Lisbon Tournament. They began Group D with 3 successive wins (4-0 v Trinacria B, 4-0 v FC Broxelona B, 2-0 v Saipan FC) before 2 draws (2-2 v Indoorsoccer PSP, 2-2 v Lanky Londoners) saw them finish 2 nd in the table behind Saipan FC. They qualified for the Cup nevertheless and enjoyed a 3-0 win over Poland's PSV Hangover in the QF. A 4-1 win over Wessex FC in the SF saw them reach the Cup Final and set-up a repeat fixture against Ireland's Saipan FC. There was just the one goal to decide the final but it went to the Irish as Galacticos came agonisingly close to glory.

They weren't going to leave anything to chance in 2022 and they hit Fail Madrid for six. Adam Patel got the ball rolling before Hamza Hafesji, Yaseen Patel and Zaiahrr made it 4-0. Ricky Bartholomew broke the pattern to pull a goal back for Fail Madrid but sadly for them it proved to be a mere consolation.

Galacticos were not done yet as Zaiahrr and Hamza Hafesji completed the 6-1 victory. Goal difference could well be important later on and they had just done theirs the world of good.
