For the twelfth time in eurofootballfives.com history we had a Trophy competition to supplement our traditional Cup and Plate competitions. This was the seventh time we had a 24-team event in addition to 25-team (x3) and 32-team (x2) events. This was a great opportunity for the teams finishing 5th and 6th in the morning group phase to turn their fortunes around and walk away with a trophy.

On Pitch A the referee and ASMS (Mor) could take an extended lunch break as due to Futsal Pioes' withdrawal from Group B we had a space in the knock-out schedule. The 6th placed team in Group B were due to play the 5th placed team in Group A which was ASMS. This meant ASMS received a bye to the Semi-Finals.

The action began in earnest on Pitch B. Trinacria A and Trinacria B would get us underway. The game was a derby match between the two Belgian squads. It is not often teams from the same club meet in eurofootballfives competition but when they do it often has a strange atmosphere – sometimes the games can lack a little intensity or sometimes the games can have a bit too much intensity with players determined not to lose to their tour-mates.

One thing for sure was that Trinacria would have a team in the Semi-Finals and that bragging rights were at stake for the rest of the Lisbon tour and beyond. The A team squad had the marginally better record of the two group records – both teams had 3 points but the A team had a better goal difference.

The game was played with a great atmosphere and a lot of jollity. It was the A team who lead at half-time. Nadi Bulbul, Yassin Bouzonmita and Jean-Claude Messina all scored as they lead 3-1. Terry Vanophalvens ' goal kept the B team in it. They were even more in it when Garcia Aitor scored for the second successive game. There was to be no more goals and the B team would exit the competition. Trinacria A would play ASMS in the first Plate Semi-Final.

On Pitch C it was FC United of Bob versus Giggs Boson FC.

Both of these teams had experienced a tough morning due to the extremely high standard of this year's tournament in Lisbon. Both teams were playing in their second eurofootballfives.com event. In their first FC United of Bob went out in the Quarter-Finals at the 2017 Vilnius Tournament. There was certainly no shame in that though against 4-times eurofootballfives.com champions CIS Committee of Belarus.

Giggs Boson FC had been rather successful in their previous knock-out campaign. They won their Trophy Quarter-Final 3-0 v Telferscot FC at the 2016 Barcelona Fives before going all the way to the final. A repeat would do them just fine.

A repeat looked on the cards after the early exchanges as Connor Lawson and James Davis found the back of the net. It was 2-0 at half-time and they never looked back. Will Davis was their top scorer in Barcelona (with 8 goals) and he scored his first today in the second half. Connor Lawson (6 goals in Barcelona) was Giggs Boson's top scorer today as he moved onto 5 goals for the tournament. James Davis bagged his second of the game and third of the tournament as Giggs Boson FC ran out 5-1 winners.

Dan Savin scored a consolation for FC United of Bob taking his total to the day to a more than respectable 5 goals but it would be the last goal for him and his team today. It was the end of the day for FC United of Bob on the field in 2018. Rumours are abound the lads plan to tour again in 2019. We look forward to seeing you then - wherever that may be.

Last but not least was FC Broxelona B against Tysers. FC Broxelona B came into the game as 5th position in Group D versus 6th position in Group C for Tysers.

The group phase of today's tournament would mark out FC Broxelona B as favourites as they took 3 more points than Tysers and had the better goal difference of the two.

Tysers had qualified for the Trophy Quarter-Finals before when they played at the 2017 Barcelona Fives. On that occasion they went out (2-1) to P Slayers. Things were looking better for them here in Lisbon as a Greg Bowles goal put them in the lead a minute before half-time.

FC Broxelona B had a Plate Semi-Final and a Plate Final to their names on their previous two eurofootballfives.com trips to Budapest and Mallorca. It looked like they would struggle to get to third Semi-Final when Lee Shaw and Lee Townsend extended the Tysers lead to 3-0. There was still time for Lee Townsend to add his sixth of the tournament whilst at the other end Scott Morgan (Broxelona B) spoiled Thomas Van Raemdonck clean sheet. Final score, 4-1.

Tysers day would continue as they would now face Giggs Boson FC in the Semi-Finals. The B team of FC Broxelona would now have a watching brief to cheer their A team on in the Plate.
