We began Group C with Trinacria A versus BSP FC.

Trinacria from Belgium were making their second eurofootballfives.com appearance. They featured for the first time at the 2017 Krakow Trophy. From their 5 group games they claimed 2 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats with seven goals scored and five conceded. It meant they finished fourth and qualified for Plate. They exited the competition at the Semi-Final stage following a 4-1 defeat to Deddington Sea Eagles.

We will preview their opponents, BSP FC, in more detail in Round 2 but suffice to say they are a quality outfit having been crowned champions at the 2017 Amsterdam Fives last year. They faced Belgian opposition in Amsterdam when they defeated ZVC Indoor Gent, 5-3.

It was proving to be another successful fixture against a Belgian team here in Lisbon as they took a 1-0 first half lead. Matt Churchill credited with the BSP FC's opening goal of the day. In the second half Zak Sandhu made it 2-0 before Alex Richardson crowned a confident 3-0 victory.

Match 2 in Group C saw Indoorsoccer versus Pangare Futebol Clube.

In a very strong tournament overall, Group C was looking like it could be the Group of Death. As well as BSP FC with a tournament win, we had the defending champions Pangare Futebol Clube. Their opening fixture against Indoorsoccer was a repeat of the 2017 Lisbon Tournament Cup Semi-Final. Last year it was Pangare Futebol Clube who emerged victorious 4-1.

Here in 2018 Indoorsoccer got a measure of revenge. They got off to a cracking start with Joao Mendes and Nelsio putting them 2-0 up by half-time. Pangare Futebol Clube did hit back in the second half with two goals from Felipe Soares De Alencar but a second Joao Mendes goal meant the Portuguese won it, 3-2.

The last two teams to get underway were PSV Hangover (Pol) versus Tysers (Eng).

PSV Hangover were making their debut in our tournaments so we would get our first glimpse of them in action shortly. For Tysers it was a second appearance after competing at the 2017 Barcelona Fives. They were drawn in the proverbial group of death then and, looking at the schedules, they may have had the dose repeated. In Barcelona, Tysers recorded 2 wins on their way to a sixth placed finish that saw them qualify for the Trophy competition. They met P Slayers in the Quarter-Finals but went out narrowly, 2-1.

It was the team representing Poland who hit the front in this fixture with Dominik Witek and Karol Narojczyk (2) scoring to put PSV Hangover 3-0 up at half-time. There was a recovery in the second period for Tysers with Lee Townsend bagging a brace. PSV Hangover had enough in the bank from the opening period and with a second half goal from Marcin Minczynski ran out 4-2 winners.
