Welcome to Lisbon for the fifth edition of the Lisbon Tournament - 5-a-side football under the early Summer Portuguese sun. With 24-teams assembled it was our joint largest single event in Lisbon and we were raring to go.

First up in Group A was ASMS (Mor) versus Tinniedad & Tobacco (Eng). It was a historic match as it represented the first ever appearance by a Moroccan team in our tournaments. Morocco became the 36th nation to have team representation at our events.

It would be a really difficult debut for ASMS as they came up against the 2016 Krakow Trophy champions. Tinniedad & Tobacco were usually fast starters in our tournaments as they opened up with 1-0, 4-1 and 3-0 wins in each of their last 3 eurofootballfives.com tournaments. You have to go back to the 2014 Barcelona Fives when they failed to win their opener.

They drew with ADP Netherlands 1-1 on that occasion and it was to be another draw here. ASMS sat deep and defended well. They earned themselves a good 0-0 draw as Tinniedad & Tobacco failed to find a way through.

Next up was Naranjitos (Spa) versus Wessex FC (Eng). The Spanish team were making their 8th eurofootballfives.com appearance. They came into the tournament on form as their most recent appearance at the 2017 Barcelona Fives saw them finish 2nd of 8 teams in Group B with just 1 defeat in 7 games. They qualified for the Cup and won their Quarter-Final 1-0 versus Spider Man & Eagle and their Semi-Final 1-0 over the defending champions Elcombe Old Boys. In the Cup Final they were unable to prevent L'Albiceleste (Fra) winning their third eurofootballfives.com title as they lost 2-1. Could they go one step further in Lisbon?

Against the experience of Naranjitos was a debut performance in our tournaments for Wessex FC. Wessex FC came with a good reputation and Hamza Salouache scored their first goal in eurofootballfives.com competition as they took a 1-0 lead into half-time.

Naranjitos showed the form and resilience that took them to the 2017 Barcelona Cup Final after the break and they bagged an equaliser through David Moya Aparicio. Final score, 1-1.

The final fixture in the opening round of Group A was PMPCAR versus Giggs Boson FC.

We'll preview PMPCAR in more detail as we progress with this report but let's have a look at Giggs Boson. They made their debut with us at the 2016 Barcelona Fives. They made a superb start to life in our tournaments with 5-0 and 2-1 wins. Results tailed off as they went on to finish 6 out of 8 teams. They came alive in the Trophy knock-out phase with a 3-0 win in the Quarters versus Telferscot FC, a 3-2 win over Shahs of Sunset in the Semis before drawing 1-1 with Bolivar in the Final. The Trophy would be decided on penalties. Being typically English in a shoot-out, Giggs Boson missed out on glory (2-1).

It was the home team though who got off to a flyer. Two first half goals from Diogo Santos put them in control of the game as the teams changed ends at half-time. The third goal would be the killer for Giggs Boson as Pedro Domingos' strike for PMPCAR extinguished any hopes of a comeback.
