Last
but not least was It's Back against Red Cow Belgrade.
It's Back came into the game as 5th position in
Group D versus 6th position in Group C.
In
5 previous tournaments, It's Back had struggled
in the knock-out phase having won 1 of 6 previous
contests. In the early days this was due to some
tough opposition. In 2010 (Barcelona) and 2012
(Budapest) It's Back qualified for the Cup and
went out to Magic Monkeys (eventual winners) and
Luminy Wolves (2009 Barca Fives winners). In between,
they had their victory in the Plate Quarter-Finals
and it was a comprehensive one, 5-1, against FC
Dad. They then lost in the Semi-Finals to Saipan
FC (2015 Mallorca Tournament winners). In the
last couple of years there have been Plate Quarter-Final
exits at the 2013 Krakow Trophy (3-0 to Contejus
Hurricanes) and 2014 Berlin Fives (2-1 to Scandittack
FC).
Could
they claim their first knock-out win since Prague
2011? They had difficult opponents as they were
facing the 2014 Barcelona Fives Cup finalists
who had played pretty well this morning for no
reward but did run out of steam in their final
group game. Red Cow Belgrade will have hoped that
the lunch break enabled them to recharge their
batteries.
The
first half finished 1-1 with Jamie Hall (It's
Back) and Thomas Goyski (Red Cow Belgrade) scoring
for their respective teams. The second half was
to be goal-less and for the second Quarter-Final
in a row we had a penalty shoot-out to decide
matters.
Red
Cow Belgrade would have the honours of kicking
us off. Kevin Roome lead from the front to make
it 1-0 before Dave Coleman quickly restored parity
at 1-1. Joe Smith converted to make it 2-1 before
Jamie Hall, scorer in normal time, was unable
to square it off at 2-2. So, with a goal advantage
Daz Bray had a chance to put his team through
but Simon Hawkins in goal for It's Back was up
to the challenge and kept his team in it. Tom
Brunt was up next to take us into sudden death
but Dom Leonard became the hero of the hour for
Red Cow Belgrade and they were through.
