Last but not least, we come to Group D where the group began with Cheesecake FC versus Saga Louts.

Cheesecake FC came into the tournament on the back of success at the 2014 Mallorca Tournament. They made their debut in the 2010 Prague Masters in a field which also featured 3 past winners – Lozenetz City (Bul), Kehar Club (Cze) and Olympic Phil Babb (Eng). They met the latter in the Cup Semi-Finals and after a fine 3-3 draw went out on penalties. They then played in the 2011 Algarve Open which also featured 3 past winners – Goldsmith Williams and 9 Nana Budds (both UK) and defending champions Athletico Do Hollande (Hol). They met the latter in an epic final in front of a great crowd and sensational effort – unfortunately for them they were on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline.

In 2012 they played in the Mallorca Tournament which had 5 previous winners and they went out to the winners again with a Cup Semi-Final defeat to Cosegur Balear. In the 2013 Berlin Fives this phenomenon continued with a Cup Semi-Final defeat to Romania's ABC United. They did also play in the 2013 Mallorca Tournament with an injury ravaged team following their Berlin exploits – as a result they had their weakest campaign to date missing out on Cup qualification for the first time but picking up Plate Runners-Up medals. Can they follow up their 2014 Mallorca Tournament success by making it back-to-back wins in Lisbon?

It was a pretty daunting start for Saga Louts but one in which they performed really well. They competed stride for stride with their formidable opponents and it was honours even at half-time, 0-0. Cheesecake FC broke the deadlock after the break when Clement Barouillet crowned his first eurofootballfives.com appearance for Cheesecake with a goal. It proved to be the match-winning strike.

Saga Louts should not be too disappointed – not all games would be this difficult!

Match 2 in Group D saw Bubble Football (Por) versus It's Back (Eng).

Bubble Football were on eurofootballfives.com debut so we did not know quite what to expect from the Portuguese side but It's Back were a familiar sight on the eurofootballfives.com scene.

It's Back were making appearance #6 in our tournaments. They made their debut in the 2010 Barcelona Fives where they finished second in their 6-team group before being knocked out in the Cup Semi-Finals, 2-1, by eventual champions Magic Monkeys. In the 2011 Prague Masters they reached the Plate Semi-Finals before going down 2-0 to Ireland's Saipan FC (who won the 2015 Mallorca Tournament). Their 3rd appearance was in the 2012 Budapest Fives where they claimed 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat in their group to qualify for the Cup. They went out in the Quarter-Finals to 2009 Barca Fives winners Luminy Wolves of France. The Krakow Trophy was their destination for 2013 and was their least successful on the pitch but did include a sensational comeback from 3-0 down to equalise 3-3 in the last minute of the game in one of the games of the tournament. At the 2014 Berlin Fives they drew 2 and lost 2 (to the eventual Cup and eventual Plate Runners-Up) before a narrow 2-1 defeat in the Plate Quarter-Finals to the eventual winners Scandittack FC.

From the early stages of this game it was clear that It's Back had been drawn against some high quality opposition. Bubble Football were clearly a very good side and It's Back did well to keep them at bay in the first half but they did reach the break a goal down as Ivo Simoes scored the first of the day.

In the second period the goals flowed as Bubble Football turned the screw. Tiago Mendes made it 2-0 before Ruben Figueredo and Hernani Bernardo capped a fine 4-0 victory.

The last two teams to get underway were €agles 3:36 and Casa Amarela – at least that was the plan. We fielded a call from Casa Amarela just prior to kick-off to say they had been in an accident en route to the tournament and would not be able to fulfill their participation in the tournament.

We obviously wish them well and hope everyone was ok. In terms of the tournament, it meant €agles 3:36 would claim a 3-0 walkover win.
