Group C was really hotting up as we entered Round 4. Match 10 of the group was Red Cow Belgrade against Groundforce Lisboa. The two teams came into the game in 5th and 6th position so were desperate for three points to advance up the table. Group C was arguably the fabled “Group of Death” and both teams had played well despite their league placings.

The first half came and went and we were still level at 0-0. We perhaps should not have been surprised as Red Cow Belgrade have been level at the break in every game so far and Groundforce Lisboa had drawn 2 of their 3 games. In the context of the Group C table a draw was not really enough for the teams and so would they gamble and go for the victory?

The second half of games had not been too kind to Red Cow Belgrade so far as they slipped from a level position to defeat in 2 of their 3 previous outings. Their cause wasn't helped by an injury to Joe Howitt meaning they were down to 5 players and therefore a lot of effort on a hot day for the 5 players out there. Although we don't keep stats for this we are sure Groundforce Lisboa would have had the youngest squad on show today and with subs to boot. This all combined to favour the Portuguese team and they duly took advantage with Joao Xavier hitting a winner. Final score, 1-0.

It was another tough result for Red Cow Belgrade. For Groundforce Lisboa it was a vital win that saw them rise to 3rd in the table although the 4 other teams in Group C were yet to play in Round 4.

 
 
 

CCD Oeiras had just slipped to third position so the last thing they needed was a game against the league leaders to get their campaign back on track. However, were they to win what better way to climb the table than to take points off one of your main challengers for Cup qualification.

Frank Hirth B had been impressive so far to take 7 points out of a possible 9 in such a tough group. They had coped well with the continental challenge in Round 1 with a 0-0 draw against Portuguese opposition, Groundforce Lisboa. Their second encounter with Portuguese opponents saw stalemate prevail until half-time when the teams turned round level at 0-0.

After the break there were to be goals but come the final whistle there was still nothing between the two teams as we finished at 1-1. Steven Cameron scored for Frank Hirth B which kept up their record of 6 goals and 6 different goalscorers. Joao Javeira scored the goal for CCD Oeiras.

The teams remained in first and third position although Shahs of Sunset versus Melee FC (up next) could well change that before going into the final round of fixtures.

 
 
 

So, as we alluded to above, the game that would complete Round 4 and set the scene for the start of Round 5 would be Melee FC against Shahs of Sunset. Melee FC currently occupied second position but could go top with victory. Shahs of Sunset could move level with their opponents on 6 points and share second spot with Melee FC if they could take the win.

Shahs of Sunset, with three draws to their name, took the lead as they had done in their first fixture. It was Martin Weltman this time who opened his account for the day. Melee FC were unable to get back into the tie before the end of the first half ad it was 1-0 at the break. The last time Melee FC had been 1-0 down at half-time was in Round 2 when they went on to lose 3-1. They fared better in the second half of this game as David Stothard scored his second in as many games to level it up at 1-1.

There was to be no further addition to the score and the points were shared. It was a fourth draw for Shahs of Sunset and they would rue not taking maximum points from their last games having been in winning positions. The result meant they could no longer qualify for the Cup for what would've been the fifth successive time – amazing considering they were still unbeaten.

Melee FC were well positioned in second place with just one game to go.
