Round 2 started with Shahs of Sunset versus Red Cow Belgrade.

Shahs of Sunset had an excellent group record over the years at eurofootballfives.com tournaments. In their 4 previous appearances they had finished top (or joint top) on each occasion and had a record of played 17, won 13, drawn 2, lost 2. They had scored an impressive 36 goals along the way and conceded just 10. To add to that, they had a 1-1 draw this morning already.

It just goes to show what a difficult start Red Cow Belgrade had been dealt with the fixtures – first up a 2-time Cup Finalist and now a team with such a good group record as above. Red Cow Belgrade competed well in these first two games and were far from outclassed. They were 0-0 at half-time in Round 1 before going on to lose. They were 0-0 at half-time in Round 2. They were unable to find a winner here against the Shahs of Sunset but they remained resolute in defence and earned a good draw.

For Shahs of Sunset it meant two successive draws and we often see in these tournaments how draws can hinder a team's progress up the group table but Shahs of Sunset were unbeaten and they had a platform to build on.

To complete Round 2 we had Frank Hirth B versus Melee FC.

Melee FC played in the 2013 Barcelona Fives and finished joint top with ADP Netherlands but second on goal difference. Their haul of 9 points (from a possible 12) saw them qualify for the Cup where they defeated Club Tropicana Drinks FC in the QF and Sporting Gingham in the SF. The Cup Final was a very close affair but unfortunately for Melee FC they finished runners-up, 1-0, to Los Swallacticos of Northern Ireland.

They followed up Barcelona with an appearance at the 2014 Amsterdam Fives. They started off well winning 7-0 and 3-0 before a couple of defeats threatened their Cup qualification. A 6-1 win in the final group game ensured they would qualify for the elite competition. A 2-2 draw against East Compton Eagles in the QF saw them go through via penalties before a fine 4-1 SF win over Return of the Dancing Horses III meant a second successive Cup Final. They were to be Runners-Up again after Athletico Do Hollande claimed their third eurofootballfives.com title. Third time lucky for Melee FC?

They had started off well with victory but now needed to back this up. Frank Hirth B had begun with a solid opening point and if they could kick on in this match then a share of the lead in Group C was there for the taking. Nick Wastell opened the scoring for Frank Hirth B and it was they who lead at the interval.

1-0 at half-time became 3-1 at full-time as Frank Hirth B took full advantage of their early lead. Jamie Spriddle and Dan Spackman added to the goals column for the “home” named team whilst Chris Pilsbury's second in as many games was only to be a consolation this time out for Melee FC.
