Welcome to Lisbon and the second edition of the Lisbon Tournament - 5-a-side football under the late Summer Portuguese sun. With 24-teams assembled it was our largest even in Lisbon and we were raring to go.

First up in Group A was Fidelidade (Por) versus Where's Dave? (Eng). Where's Dave? were one of the Bure Park Old Boys touring party who have a rich eurofootballfives.com tradition which dates back to the 2009 Prague Trophy. They then made a hat-trick of Valencia appearances from 2010 to 2012. Their achievements include a Plate Runners-Up medals (as Karma FC) in the 2010 Valencia Fives, the 2011 Wooden Spoon title (as Karma FC), claiming the 2012 Valencia Fives Trophy title (as Sporting Abeergut) and also a Cup Quarter-Final (as Saga Louts) in the same tournament before losing to the eventual winners – FC Miracle of Hungary. In 2013, they swapped the fields of Valencia for the fields of Krakow with two squads – Saga Louts (5th in Group A) and Team Karma (4th in Group B) with Saga Louts going all the way to the Plate Final. They lead 3-0 at one stage but were hauled in by Awiw and eventually defeated on penalties. At the 2014 Bratislava Fives they competed as Saga Louts and Frankie's Footballing Fantasy with the teams finishing 4th and 3rd in their respective groups. Both teams qualified for the Plate Quarter-Finals – Frankie's Footballing Fantasy went out on penalties and Saga Louts went out to GSF Drunkerz (who eventually won the Plate and then the overall 2015 Bratislava Fives).

Their opponents Fidelidade who were on debut and acquitted themselves well on their first European start. They reached half-time with a 1-0 lead thanks to Paulo Rodrigues. It was to be a goal in each half as Alexandre Pinto doubled the lead and ensured a 2-0 victory for the home team.

Next up was Frank Hirth A versus Ealing Expendables. Frank Hirth began life in eurofootballfives.com competition at the 2014 Berlin Fives and after a strong debut were expected to challenge again here in Lisbon. In Berlin the Frank Hirth A team won Group C with a 100% record and the B team finished 2nd in Group A (behind 2013 Mallorca Five winners Grant Thornton from Paris). The two teams were successful in their Cup Quarter-Finals setting up a derby showdown in the Cup Semi-Finals. The A team won it narrowly, 2-1, and progressed to the Cup Final and just missed out on the ultimate glory going down 4-3 to Hasanheide Hotspur. Could they go one step further in Lisbon?

We'll preview Ealing Expendables further in Round 2 but they too had previous eurofootballfives.com experience. It was Ealing Expendables who drew first blood as Ben Esprit scored their first of the tournament and gave his side a 1-0 lead going into half-time.

Frank Hirth A showed the form and resilience that took them to the Berlin final after the break and they bagged an equaliser through Harry Klingenspor. Final score, 1-1.

The final fixture in the opening round of Group A was Indoor Soccer versus Spider Mans & Great Hawk.

Indoorsoccer were the second Portuguese team on debut in Group A and they would hope to emulate their compatriots, Fidelidade, who started off with all three points. The Spider Mans team made an impressive debut 12 months ago at the 2014 Bratislava Fives. They lost their first game, 3-0, to eventual champions CIS Committee but bounced back in style. 2-0 and 3-1 victories followed before a 2-2 draw consolidated their progress. They finished off the group with a 3-0 win to take 2nd place and qualify for the Cup. In the Quarter-Finals they battled out a 2-2 draw with Shahs of Sunset before a penalty shoot-out saw them exit the competition. Fast forward to May 2015 and they appeared again at the 2015 Budapest Fives finishing 3rd in a group that would also contain the eventual champions. They qualified for the Cup and recorded a thumping 5-0 win in the Quarter-Finals before meeting CIS Committee in the Semi-Finals. They lost to them in Bratislava and were to do so again in Budapest but it was a good performance despite the 3-1 defeat. They brought two teams to the party in Lisbon. Their second team, Spider Mans & Great Hawk, were just about to get underway.

The two teams looked evenly matched and it was honours even at the break with the teams locked together at 0-0. There was to be goals in the second half but the teams remained all square at 1-1 thanks to goals from Ryan Stevens (Spider Mans & Great Hawk) and Miguel Oliveira (Indoorsoccer).
