As we entered the final Round of games it was do or die for the teams in reaching the knock-out stages.

Red Cow Belgrade knew their fate would lie in the Trophy competition in this afternoon's knock-out phase but they could still finish 5th if they were to win, Shahs of Sunset were to lose and there be a 3-goal swing in goal difference. This would obviously give them a boost in confidence and, in theory, an easier Quarter-Final draw.

Red Cow Belgrade's opponents would be CCD Oeiras who were eyeing up a place in the Cup competition. CCD Oeiras currently sat in third position and could move joint top with a win but Melee FC and Frank Hirth B above them both had their fate in their own hands so even a win may not be good enough for the Portuguese team.

This may have been one game too far for Red Cow Belgrade before the lunch break as they had battled well in close fought games in all previous matches but CCD Oeiras had the run on them here. The local team quickly established a 3-0 lead with goals from Gatalino Fravisc, Carlos Jeljedo and Fravisc again. Goal difference could well be crucial in the final standings so everything was going superbly for CCD Oeiras. After the break they extended their lead from 3-0 to 4-0 with a Daniel Souza goal.

It was a fine three points that could well see Cup qualification come their way but they would have to wait and see if they had done enough – it was out of their hands now.

Groundforce Lisboa met Melee FC in the penultimate game of Group C. Groundforce Lisboa could still qualify for the Cup with a win but they had to win by 8 to overhaul CCD Oeiras. Alternatively, they had to hope Frank Hirth B would lose their final game with a 5 goal swing in goal difference (Frank Hirth B were currently +3, Groundforce Lisboa were -2).

For Melee FC it was a similar situation but a draw might be enough. The draw would see them move on to 8 points along with CCD Oeiras and Frank Hirth B. CCD Oeiras would have a greater goal difference so they would also have to hope for a Frank Hirth B defeat but by 3 goals. A 2-0 defeat would see them level with identical records but Frank Hirth B won the head to head. A 3-1 defeat or greater (but still by 2 goals) would see Frank Hirth B through on goals scored. To put things beyond any shadow of a doubt Melee FC had to win and save us all a headache with the permutations.

After the opening period they were in the box seat to do just that as David Stothard's goal (3 rd in as many games) all but ended Groundforce Lisboa's hopes. CCD Oeiras and Frank Hirth B were surely hoping that the local side could do them a favour and get back into it but Fabio Zucchelli's second clean sheet of the day ensured all 3 points would be collected by Melee FC – they were through to the Cup for the third time in three tournaments. A great achievement.

Groundforce Lisboa would remain on 5 points and see if that would mean Plate or Trophy football this afternoon.

That left us with Frank Hirth B versus Shahs of Sunset to wrap up Group C. The game was a huge one for Frank Hirth B – before the start of Round 5 they were sat on top of the table but at kick-off they found themselves in third position. To move back into the Cup qualification places they needed a draw to finish second and a win to finish top and claim the Group C title.

In their way stood Shahs of Sunset who were currently in fifth position but could move into 4th place on goal difference with a draw or outright with a win. Shahs of Sunset had been getting closer and closer to that first win of the day by taking the lead in their last two fixtures and they made it three games in a row as Martin Weltman's second of the tournament put Shahs of Sunset in the ascendency. The goal heaped pressure on Frank Hirth B who had to score in the second half (without reply) to keep their Cup hopes alive.

There was hope for Frank Hirth B – not only due to their own ability and the fact that they were unbeaten up until this point but also due to the fact that Shahs of Sunset had lost the lead in their last two games. I am sure Frank Hirth B would have been quite happy for Shahs of Sunset to claim a fifth successive draw at this stage. 5 draws in a 6-team group is something that has never been “achieved” by the way.

It was not to be achieved here either as Euan Blair kept his second clean sheet of the morning and Shahs of Sunset had their victory. In a strange twist of fate the only unbeaten side in the group had finished in fourth position. Frank Hirth B would slip to third position in the table and join their opponents in the Plate competition.

Melee FC and CCD Oeiras would progress to the Cup in what was a high quality and highly competitive Group C.
