Round 3 started with Shahs of Sunset taking on Groundforce Lisboa. Both teams were looking for the first victory of the day but in the case of the former, Shahs of Sunset were unbeaten with two draws so far. The multinational English team were only two points off the top but would need to start turning draws into wins if they were to keep up their record of finishing 1st (or joint 1st) in every tournament thay had played in.

It started well for the Shahs of Sunset as Paolo Ferrari opened the scoring in the first half. It was the first time that the Shahs had lead today and, with a defence that had only conceded 1 in 2.5 games to date, they were in pole position to claim that first win of the day.

Groundforce Lisboa had just one point to show for their efforts so far today and, given the nature of their play, it had surprised us that they were still looking for their first goal. That was to change in the second half as Joao Arsenio broke their duck to equalize. It was a goal that earned his side a 1-1 draw.

It was now three successive draws for Shahs of Sunset and two out of three for Groundforce Lisboa.

We went into Game 8 of Group C with Red Cow Belgrade due to meet Frank Hirth B.

Red Cow Belgrade had so far been very competitive in low-scoring games. They had been tight at the back with just the one goal conceded but were having trouble finding the net at the other end. Both their games so far had been 0-0 at half-time so could we expect the same for a third occasion?

Not this time but they were still level. Red Cow Belgrade found themselves level at 1-1 this time with Kevin Roome scoring their first of the day. Roome's goal was cancelled out by a Matt Limb strike for Frank Hirth B.

Frank Hirth B could go top with a draw although they could be usurped by the end of Round 3. To guarantee top spot (or a share of it at the very least) they needed all 3 points. So far Frank Hirth B had scored 4 goals with 4 different scorers – when John Sneddon put them 2-1 up that became 5 goals with 5 different scorers. The goal proved to be the winner and earned his team a second successive victory.

For Red Cow Belgrade it was a second game where they had lost by just the one goal.

The next game was the big one in Group C so far with Melee FC meeting CCD Oeiras. Melee FC had won one and lost one but found themselves just a point behind their opponents. Melee FC could move within a point of first place with a victory, CCD Oeiras could earn a share of the lead and open up a 4 point gap on the teams in third place.

Melee FC had to avoid defeat to avoid dropping off the pace in Group C but they were gunning for all three points when Chris Pilsbury continued his fine goalscoring form to make it 3 goals in 3 games. The English team lead 1-0 at the break and CCD Oeiras were staring at a first defeat of the day.

Chris Pilsbury scored again in the second half before his team-mate, David Stothard, opened his personal account as Melee FC bounced back from Round 2 defeat in style. There was a goal for CCD Oeiras from Gonzalo Simoes (his second in as many games) but it was to prove fruitless in terms of points as Melee FC completed a 3-1 win.

It was a crucial win for Melee FC that lifted them into the Cup qualification places at the expense of their opponents who slipped to third position.
