We were now at the business end of the tournament and into the knock-out stage of the 2013 Mallorca Tournament. Lose now and it was the end of the day from a football perspective.

The first Quarter-Final would be contested by Son Gual and Whiteley Bad Boys. On paper this should be the easiest Quarter-Final to predict. The 3rd best 3rd placed finishers reward for the highest league placing of all the Plate Quarter-Finalists is a tie against the lowest ranked team in the Plate. However, it doesn't always work out that way and the 2012 Mallorca Tournament proved this when Inextremes gunned down 4-times Cup winners Olympic Phil Babb at this same stage!

Son Gual were given a really tough ride and held a narrow 2-1 advantage at half-time thanks to goals from Pau Roman and Jose Luis Malta. A goal for Whiteley Bad Boys number 11 Dan Froud kept them in striking distance.

Let's not forget that Son Gual won the 2013 Mallorca Fives Plate just 6 weeks ago so they were well accomplished at this level. Maybe that was ultimately the difference between the two teams as Son Gual edged the second half as they did the first half, 2-1. Goals from Cisco and another for Pau Roman secured their passage through to the Semi-Finals.

For Whiteley Bad Boys, Dale Matthews scored their final goal of the tournament in a 4-2 defeat. It showed despite a disappointing league finish they were competitive. All eyes would now be on Whiteley Galacticos as the last remaining hope for Whiteley FC in this season's Mallorca Tournament.

The second Quarter-Final was Have Ago Heroes versus Whiteley Galacticos. Have Ago Heroes had qualified for the Plate courtesy of their 4th placed finish in Group A with 6 points from their 5 games. Their opponents Whiteley Galacticos also had 6 points from their efforts so this looked a very even pairing on paper.

Have Ago Heroes had looked after Round 3 like making the Cup competition but then faded at the end with two defeats in a row so would need to turn their form around to avoid tournament exit. The Galacticos came into the game on the back of a 5-0 win so should be full of confidence.

That confidence would probably have evaporated after the first half of this game as Have Ago Heroes came storming out the blocks. We're not sure what they had for lunch but it did the job as they surged into a 4-0 lead at half-time. Rob Millington opened the scoring before Ash Wainwright bagged a double and Jordan Passey grabbed another for his tally.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Dan Preston netting, Ash Wainwright completing his hat-trick, Stephen Quiney opening his account and Rob Millington book-ending the performance with their final goal. Jake Alford would bag a consolation with his fifth of the day and it was some consolation with a “Trevor Sinclair-esque” bicycle kick from a Steve Holmes throw-in.

Whiteley Galacticos would bow at this stage but they did secure one title on tour – the Pub Quiz challenge champions at the Aquasol Hotel. A bottle of champagne for their troubles…can't be bad!

Quarter-Final 3 was due to be Cheesecake FC versus El A Dees – quite a heavyweight contest for a Cup Quarter-Final let alone a Plate Quarter-Final as both teams had previously reached a eurofootballfives.com Cup Final.

However, El A Dees had a relatively small squad at the start of the day (6 players) and picked up an injury in Game 1 meaning Gaz Lawrence had to go in goal and release their regular goalkeeper onto pitch. Another injury meant they were down to just 4 fit players with two walking wounded so they decided to concede the fixture.

Cheesecake FC went through courtesy of a 3-0 walkover.

The fourth Plate Quarter-Final would be contested by AB Kirby and Hutchy's Heroes. This was going to be a tough one to call as AB Kirby FC had dropped down a level since their last performance in Budapest 2012 where they made the Cup. On that occasion they went out at the Quarter-Final stage and would hope to avoid a replica of that here. They had 4 points from their 5 games.

Hutchy's Heroes were on debut but secured 2 wins and 6 points in their group games. So, where's your money? It was AB Kirby who struck first through Sam Humphreys. A sweeping AB Kirby move lead to goal number two – it was fine build up play from Chris Williams but it was a Hutchy's boot that finished the move for 2-0.

What could Hutchy's Heroes muster in the second half? They needed to score first to give themselves hope but the third goal of the game went to Daniel Qureshi of AB Kirby FC. The goal seemed to break Hutchy's Heroes and give AB Kirby a huge boost. Humphreys and Qureshi added another goal each before Ste Scragg rounded off a fine 6-0 win.

We sadly had to say farewell to Hutchy's Heroes but they still had interest in the tournament as their sister squad, Tommy's Tits, were still involved in the Cup competition.
