The
second final of the day would see Have Ago Heroes
and Cheesecake FC come head-to-head in a bid to
lift the 2013 Mallorca Tournament Plate Title.
With
seven games of football already under their belts
the two teams would need to summon one last burst
of energy to ensure they would be picking up winners
and not runners-up medals in the presentation.
The game started off at quite a pace and the two
teams both went at each other from the off. The
first big talking point of the game came when
Cheesecake FC broke through the Have Ago Heroes
defence. Goalkeeper Joshua Dudley cleared the
danger but with his hands outside the area. The
referee gave the free-kick but inexplicably nothing
else. I am sure no-one would have argued with
the red card and that would have put a completely
different complexion on the game. Have Ago Heroes
survived the red card, survived the resulting
free kick and things got even better for them
when they took the lead through Rob Millington.
The half-time whistle blew and Have Ago Heroes
held the advantage.
In
the second half Cheesecake FC came out in determined
fashion to find the equalizer and they were pushing
hard but the Have Ago Heroes defence was proving
tough to break down. Then the crucial second goal
of the game through Rob Millington again – this
goal proved decisive. At 2-0 the destination of
the Plate trophy looked assured. Cheesecake FC
boldly tried to get back into the game but were
unable to do so. Have Ago Heroes continued to
look dangerous and were playing like the champions
elect. Millington completed his hat-trick and
was certainly the Man of the Match in the Plate
Final. He also finished on 12 goals for the tournament
– a fine return.
Many
congratulations to Have Ago Heroes on a superb
win. Our commiserations go to Cheesecake FC who
narrowly missed out on a title again.
