The last round of fixtures threw up some intriguing ties and we began with Abertawe All Blacks against Es Marges. The Spanish needed to win to guarantee Cup qualification whereas Abertawe All Blacks would need to put points on the board and hope it would be enough for Plate qualification – either by winning and potentially overhauling Hutchy's Heroes to finish 5th or by being the best of the 6th placed finishers.

The form book can often lie but it certainly didn't on this occasion as the Spanish took no prisoners in making it a run of two successive wins and three games unbeaten. They ran out 6-0 winners and secured their Cup place in the process. Goals were shared around as Emo and Ilian gave them a 2-0 lead in the first period. Toshko (2), Emo again and Petko all found the net in the second half.

For Abertawe All Blacks it almost certainly meant the Wooden Spoon competition would await them this afternoon.

The penultimate match of Group A was Son Gual versus Inter Women. The two teams met in the Group stage last year and Inter Women ran out 3-1 victors on that occasion.

Son Gual needed to win the game to move on to 10 points which would almost certainly give them Cup qualification as either 2nd place finishers or one of the two 3rd placed qualification places. Their task would not be easy against the Group winners though and they could only hope Inter Women's eyes may be on the Cup Quarter-Finals rather than this game.

Inter Women are too professional for that though and two goals in each half (all to Daniel Powell) meant a 4-0 win and a 100% record continued for them. Daniel Powell's tally moved on to 11 goals for the tournament.

Son Gual would qualify for the Plate though where they had hopes of emulating their Mallorca Fives Plate success just 6 weeks ago.

So 14 games down, 1 to go and it was the battle of the Heroes. Not Superman versus Spiderman but Have Ago Heroes versus Hutchy's Heroes. Hutchy's Heroes would certainly be playing Plate football this afternoon and almost certainly finish 5th unless they could win by 4 goals to leapfrog their opposition in the table.

The game was more important for Have Ago Heroes though – draw/lose they would be in the Plate. If they could win they could well be one of the two best 3rd placed teams to go through to the Cup but they would be sweating on results in Group B and Group C to see if they had done enough. Their first task was to win the game and then see how far that would take them….goal difference could well be crucial also.

Have Ago Heroes task was made all the more difficult in the first half though as Phil Shrubshall put Hutchy's Heroes ahead. It was Shrubshall again after the break to make it 2-0 and seal a fine victory for them. They were pretty unlucky to finish 5th placed with a haul of 6 points but could go into the Plate on a high after 2 wins in 3 games.

For Have Ago Heroes though things were looking good after Round 3 but two defeats in succession meant they missed out on the Cup places and, like their appearance in our Barcelona Fives tournament in 2012, would qualify for the Plate.
