Going into the final round of games there were 4 teams who all had a chance of reaching the Cup competition. Of these teams, Rigford Seahawks Alpha had their fate in their own hands – they were on a fine run of form with 3 successive victories and a fourth now would clinch Cup qualification and the Group B title.

Los Langeros needed the points to ensure Plate qualification. Anything less and they would finish 5th or 6th but would be reliant on the results of others in Group B (and possibly other groups should they finish 6th) to decide their fate.

There was an early goal for Rigford Seahawks Alpha when Richard Clements bravely headed home from a corner to give his side a 1-0 lead. They had one hand on the Group B title. Could Los Langeros hit back?

They tried hard and kept the Seahawks in their sights but for all their good play at the back and in midfield they were unable to find the killer blow and get the goal that would bring them some points.

The game finished 1-0 and Rigford Seahawks Alpha claimed the Group B title – well done to them. Los Langeros would have to wait on other results.

Meglapetes and Budapest Celtic Lions met on Pitch B in an all-Hungarian encounter. A win for either team would seal their Cup qualification and 2nd place. A draw would be good enough for the Lions but leave Megapletes vulnerable to Bozeat All Stars as would a defeat for either.

For both teams their fate was in their own hands – all they needed to do was grab it. It was Budapest Celtic Lions who took the lead when Aleksanteri Herituainen found the back of the net. Meglapetes hit back through Norbert Savvnoh to make it 1-1 and we were back to where we started.

There was to be a winner though and it came from Celtic's Abdul and sealed the match 2-1. Budapest Celtic Lions had got the result they needed with the win and qualified for the Cup. Meglapetes remained on 7 points and could slip to 4 th place if results went against them.

The final game of Group B was BBFC2 versus Bozeat All Stars. With the results above Bozeat All Stars could now finish 3rd with a win and would more-than-likely qualify as one of the two best 3rd placed teams. Anything less and they would be competing in the afternoon's Plate competition.

For BBFC2, a victory would see them join Bozeat All Stars in the Plate and knock Los Langeros out of the tournament. A 0-0 draw would see them finish level with Los Langeros and we would need a penalty shoot-out to decide who would finish 5th and who would finish 6th. A score-draw would see BBFC2 finish 5th on goals scored whereas a defeat would see them go out. There was plenty at stake for both teams.

Both teams had drawn their last game 0-0 and we were to get the exact same result in this fixture. The draw ensured that despite just the one defeat Bozeat All Stars would finish in 4th position and make the Plate.

For BBFC2, they finished with an identical Win-Draw-Loss and Points record. They possessed exactly the same goals for and against. Plus, in the head to head they drew 0-0. So, only one thing for it – a penalty shoot-out. This would decide who would go through to the Plate and who would go to the bar with a watching brief for the rest of the afternoon.

So, penalty shoot-out time. This was only the third time in 49 tournaments that a penalty shoot-out was required to separate two teams with identical group records.

The first was in the 2007 Prague Trophy when Sparta CSF defeated England Lions 2-1 and then just 12 months ago here in Budapest when The Mersey White Sox defeated Exeter Gently, 2-0.

Now was the turn of BBFC2 versus Los Langeros. The Irish team would have the honour of the first penalty…Kevin Burke took it and his penalty was saved by David Jamieson in goal for BBFC2. Ben Williams scored to make it 1-0 to BBFC2.

In the second round of penalties, Kieran Tanner also saw Jamieson save his penalty and it was odds on BBFC2 to make it through. The Irish goalkeeper made the save from Nnamdi David to keep it 1-0 and give Los Langeros hope. James Buckley converted his penalty for Los Langeros to make it 1-1. It was now all up to Liam Hatcher to send BBFC2 through but there was heartbreak as his penalty cannoned back off the post.

Sudden death penalties it was. Liam Dorgan was unable to convert and it was all down to William McCready who found the back of the net and sent BBFC2 through to the Plate. Sadly for Los Langeros their time on the pitch was over.
