Group B began with two established teams on the eurofootballfives.com circuit and it was a cracker of a game. Rigford Seahawks Alpha would meet Budapest Celtic Lions

Rigford Seahawks have a rich eurofootballfives.com history. They have previously toured 4 times and on each occasion have gone home with a trophy and medals. Their haul includes two Cup victories (Krakow Trophy 2009 & Berlin Fives 2012) and two Plate victories (Prague Trophy 2009 & Amsterdam Fives 2011). They could have played in the Plate Champion of Champions tournament in Budapest but instead are aiming for a hat-trick of Cup wins. They have two squads – Alpha & Omega.

As we have seen at the start of Group A, Budapest Celtic are regulars in our tournaments. The Budapest Celtic Lions had progressed from the group to the Cup competition on both their previous Budapest appearances in 2011 and 2012. In the 2012 Barcelona Fives they also made the Cup Semi-Final losing on penalties to Irish team Saipan FC.

It was a heavyweight contest to start Group B and we reached half-time all square at 0-0. The decisive moment came mid-way through the second half when Joci gave the Hungarian team the lead. There was more than a hint of handball in the build-up but it was on the blind-side of the referee with the players body hiding the incident from view. There was no question about the second goal as Adau put the game to bed.

Match 2 saw Los Langeros on Bozeat All Stars. Los Langeros (Ire) joined us for the first time in Valencia 2012 although some members of the squad also participated in the 2012 Barcelona Fives as part of a stag weekend. In Barcelona they sported some spectacular hangovers that hindered the progress on the pitch with the two teams Doofies Dynamos and Rick's Trick United each finishing 5th in their respective groups. In Valencia they finished 5th (in 6 team groups this time) in a tough group and made the Trophy Semi-Finals before going down at the hands of FC Dad.

Bozeat All Stars made their debut at the 2011 Krakow Trophy (at the same venue that England used as their Euro 2012 training base) and had quite a debut. They finished 2nd in their opening group behind Dutch team and eventual Runners-Up, CEPL. They progressed to the Cup group and finished 4th overall in the tournament on a stunning summer's day in Poland. They returned to action in the 2012 Barcelona Fives with two teams – the Bozeat All Stars finished 3rd (out of 5) in the Group of Death and narrowly missed out on a Plate Final as they lost out via Golden Goal to Barley FC in the Semis.

Bozeat All Stars got off to the fastest start with Marty Legg and Joel Piper putting their team 2-0 up by the break. There was to be no addition to the score in the second period and Bozeat All Starts were up and running with all 3 points.

The final teams in Group B to start their challenge were Meglapetes versus BBFC2. The home team were on debut so we did not quite know what to expect from them. BBFC2 were the second squad from the Banter Bus FC stable. As we touched on in Group A made their debut a year ago in the Catalan capital of Barcelona finishing 2 nd in their 5 team group before going on to the Cup Quarter-Finals. The BBFC1 squad were starting well in Group A and BBFC2 would hope to emulate that.

Meglapetes were showing early on that they were a more than capable team as Zsolt Horvath fired a first half double to put them in control by half-time. Norbert Savvnoh made it 3-0 after the break and completed a 3-0 win that would put Meglapetes on top of Group B on goal difference.

For BBFC2 there was still 4 group games to get their 2013 Budapest Fives challenge underway.
