Welcome to Budapest and welcome to the 3rd annual Budapest Fives 5-a-side football tournament. Once again the tour to Budapest has been superbly supported and we thank you all.

First up in Group A was The Puskas Dolls (Ire) versus BBFC1 (Eng). The Irish team were returning to action after previously participating in the 2010 Prague Masters and 2012 Valencia Fives. In Prague, they struggled in the group stage before finding their feet in the afternoon knock-out stage. A 4-2 win over Celtic Craic followed by a 2-0 win over the New Camps earned them the Wooden Spoon playoff victory. In Valencia they were massively improved where they went all the way to the Cup Final before finishing 2nd to Hungarian team, FC Miracle.

Their opponents Banter Bus FC made their debut 12 months ago in Barcelona and it was a fine debut. They finished 2nd in their 5 team group behind Budapest Celtic Lions before going out to eventual winners Black Sheep of Spain in the Cup Quarter-Finals.

Honours were even in the tournament curtain-raiser and we finished all square at 0-0. It was a solid start for both teams.

Next up was Les 5 Salopards of France versus Hungary's Budapest Celtic Tigers. The French team were on debut and the 4th team from France to appear at the Budapest Fives after Luminy Wolves, CFC and L'Albiceleste. All these teams had made at least the Cup Quarter-Finals so the French team had tough acts to follow.

Budapest Celtic entered the eurofootballfives.com fold in 2011 on home soil at the 2011 Budapest Fives with two squads – the most successful of their teams (the “Tigers” squad) lost on penalties in the Cup Final. They made a bid for glory at the 2012 Barcelona Fives and 2012 Budapest Fives. In Barcelona they had 2 teams reach the Cup Semi-Finals but both the Lions and Pumas squads missed out on the Final on penalties and Golden Goal respectively. In Budapest last year they came very close again with the Tigers squad getting to the Cup Final but again settling for Runners-Up medals as Romania's ABC United took the winning trophy. You wouldn't bet against them to win the title this season.

It was another cagey start with the teams level 0-0 at half-time but we were to witness our first goals of Group A after the break as Tahar El Baghdadi struck to give Les 5 Salopards a 1-0 win.

The final fixture in the opening round of Group A Shahs of Sunset versus Wokingham FC. Shahs of Sunset were on debut in the 2012 Valencia Fives and they impressed. They topped their group and qualified for the Cup competition where they lost out to Mestallaban (playing here as The Puskas Dolls & Hungary Hungary Heggos) on penalties in the Quarter-Finals.

Wokingham FC are the footballers formerly known as Reading Royals. As the Reading Royals they made their debut in the 2008 Premiership In…Portugal where they finished 6th. They returned in the 2009 Prague Masters where they reached the Plate Semi-Finals before going out to eventual Plate winners AON Top Guns. Their last appearance was the 2011 Krakow Trophy where they finished 8th.

On the pitch there was a goal in each half for the Shahs of Sunset as Anders Schmachtenberg got his team's first of the day. Paolo Ferrari grabbed the second to complete the victory.
