So, onto Round 5 we go and the last attempts for the teams to stake their claim for the title, Cup qualification or Plate qualification. First up was the Puskas Dolls against Les 5 Salopards.

The Irish needed a win to secure Plate football in the knock-out phase. Les 5 Salopards knew a win would be good enough for Cup qualification – even if they finished 3rd their tally of 10 points would be enough to claim one of the two best 3rd placed finishers qualification places. A draw would see both teams sweating to reach their objectives.

Les 5 Salopards struck the first blow as Yanick Jista's 5th of the day sent them on their way in the first hald. 1-0 became 2-0 when Mounir Tarbi doubled his tally for the day and the French team were on their way to the 2013 Budapest Fives Cup competition. The Puskas Dolls currently sat in 5th place but with their two closest rivals having a game in hand their position was vulnerable.

Shahs of Sunset needed just a point to secure the Group A title when they played BBFC1. The latter needed a win to ensure going through as one of the best 3rd placed teams or a 6 goal win to take 2nd or a 7 goal win to take 1st Should this unlikely scenario take place Shahs of Sunset would slip to 3rd in a 3-way tie at the top.

These two teams had the best two defences in the group though so a goal-fest of this proportion was unlikely. Shahs of Sunset had yet to concede and BBFC1 had kept clean sheets in 7 of the 8 halves of football they'd played…until a bit of a blip in that other half.

It was perhaps no surprise then that the game finished 0-0. Congratulations to Shahs of Sunset for winning the Group A title and Samir Benyounes and his defence for going through an entire 6-team group without shipping a single goal.

BBFC1 finished 3rd and it would prove to be enough as results in the other groups meant they would qualify for the Cup as one of the two best 3rd placed finishers.

The 15th and final game of Group A was Wokingham FC versus Budapest Celtic Tigers. The English team had started off with two defeats but picked up well with a 2-2 draw against the 2012 Valencia finalists and a 2-2 draw with a strong French team. Budapest Celtic Tigers had one win from four but lost the last two and were on a downward turn of form.

Wokingham FC had to win this to qualify for the Plate and if they could they would finish in a very respectable 4th position. Should that happen Budapest Celtic Tigers would finish in 6th place and they'd have to see if they had the best record of the 6th placed teams across the 3 groups to see if they would qualify for the Plate.

Wokingham FC completed a fine 1-0 victory to make it 3 games unbeaten and would go into the Plate Quarter-Finals on a high. Budapest Celtic Tigers had just enough to be the best 6th placed team (on goal difference) and their tournament would continue….just….in the Plate.
