It
was 12 games down and 3 to play as we entered
Round 5, the final round, of Group D. We began
with AFC Underworld (Spa) versus FNV (NL). What
was at stake for these two teams?
3
successive draws had held AFC Underworld back
and so the best they could achieve was 6 points
which would achieve fourth position at best.
It might only be good enough for fifth if Cranwell
won their final game. Fourth position would
see Plate qualification, fifth would mean going
through to the Trophy.
For
FNV it was pride at stake. Given their goal
difference, even a win here would realistically
mean sixth position. However, they could pick
up a confidence boost heading into the Trophy
competition and maybe turn their fortunes around.
AFC
Underworld had seen FNV concede 9, 9, 6 and
5 so far. They must have been hoping to fill
their boots but FNV made a tactical switch by
changing their goalkeeper and it worked wonders
for FNV. Although AFC Underworld scored relatively
early to make it 1-0 they were unable to build
on that as FNV found some newly discovered solidity
at the back. It was still defeat for FNV but
it was much better.
