We kicked off Round 4 in Group D with Cranwell versus AFC Underworld. Cranwell had experienced a mixed day so far – narrow defeat, big win, narrow defeat. If they could finish win-win they could still potentially reach the Cup competition.

AFC Underworld had a slow start with a 3-1 loss in their opening game but had been competitive since. They had drawn their last two games so, although unbeaten, the draws had stalled their progress up the league table. AFC Underworld had now played 8 group games in our tournaments – Won 4, Drawn 3, Lost 1. So although AFC Underworld currently sat in fifth position this would be no easy game for Cranwell.

Indeed it was AFC Underworld who struck first thanks to Jack Foord. It was the first time AFC Underworld had lead today. Ethan Low then doubled the lead as it looked like the Spanish team could be on course for their first 3 points. Stuart Scott bagged a goal back for the travelling English team before the break that kept them in touching distance.

The comeback was complete for Cranwell when Paddy Hobson made it 2-2. Just as it looked like momentum was swinging towards Cranwell it was AFC Underworld who restored their lead. Ethan Low with another to add to his tournament tally. Cranwell could not be shaken off though – they hit back again with Paddy Hobson scoring another equalizer to make it 3-3. It was a great game and honours even.

The next game in Group D was FNV (NL) versus Rodger Fingers (Eng).

FNV were the third of the Dutch teams in the tournament – all from the same travelling group. They competed at the 2017 Mallorca Tournament with four teams – KML, FC De Rimmer, Mannenliefde and Het Sterretje. 3 of their teams qualified for the Plate competition whilst KML qualified for the Cup.

KML went out at the Cup Quarter-Final stage on penalties after a 2-2 draw. In the Plate competition FC De Rimmer and Het Sterretje fell at the Quarter-Final stage. Mannenliefde went all the way to the Plate Final where they drew 1-1 with FC Shark before losing on penalties.

At the 2018 Algarve Open they competed as Real De Groot & Elbersiktas. Real De Groot finished 5 th of 8 teams in Group A with 2 wins, 2 draws and 3 defeats. They qualified for the Plate and went out in the Quarter-Final stage, 2-0, to Madrid's AC Motxo International. In Group B Elbersiktas had a similar record finishing 5 th with 2 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats. They received a bye in the Quarters and then met AC Motxo International in the Semi-Finals. The two teams played out a 0-0 draw in normal time before the Spanish won 3-2 on penalties.

FNV had struggled with 3 heavy defeats today and another was to befall them here. Rodger Fingers knew a win would take them into joint second place in the table and they made no mistake with completing the win. Hardeep Marwaha (x2), Jodhan Reehal (x2) and Raj Dhaliwal were all on target in a 5-1 win.

Agger Diouf Diouf Diouf took to the field as Group D leaders with 3 wins from 3. They would meet Danish Dynamites who were unbeaten with 2 wins and 1 draw. This was the crunch game at the top with both teams favourites to go through to the Cup – the winner of this game could well take the group win.

This was Agger Diouf Diouf Diouf's 7th campaign (taking into account 3 teams at the 2018 Amsterdam Fives) and represented their best start to a tournament so far. In their previous 6 campaigns their points total after 3 games had been 4, 6, 4, 3, 6 and 1. If we had a look over at Group A, their sister squad today (Ospina Coladas) were on 2 points. Could they extend this dream start further? This would surely be their greatest test yet.

It certainly looked it on paper and so it was proving out on the field of play too. These two teams had an identical record in terms of goals scored (12) and conceded (1) so far today. It was defences who were currently on top as we entered half-time level at 0-0.

We would not finish 0-0 though as 1 second half goal would settle the tie. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. That man was Dan O'Neill. He was yet to score today but what a time to come up with a vital goal contribution. His goal kept Agger Diouf Diouf Diouf's 100% record going. It secured Cup qualification and the Group D title – all with a game to spare. What a performance from the English team today.
