The first set of fixtures had been completed so it was quickly on to Round 2. The opening game of the round promised to be an enthralling encounter. Although it was early in the day and early in Group B this game could well be the group decider and could well be the rehearsal for the Cup Final later in the day.

We had the 2018 Gdansk Tournament winners in the form of Northern Town and we also had a strong looking Sintetrimeni who had already completed a big 7-1 win in their opening game.

In a keenly contested fixture it was Panagiotis Karachanidis who established a first half lead to the men from Greece. It was a lead they would retain until the break. In the second half Perikilis Karvounis doubled that lead to 2-0. At the other end the Greek defence held firm as Georgios Siaterlis kept his first clean sheet of the day.

Although they had lost the battle, Northern Town may not have lost the war. In Gdansk last year they lost 1 group game and then met that same team in the Cup Final which they went on to win. An omen perhaps?

The second game of Round 2 was VNV versus Footballab.

Our Dutch friends competed at the 2017 Mallorca Tournament with four teams – KML, FC De Rimmer, Mannenliefde and Het Sterretje. 3 of their teams qualified for the Plate competition whilst KML qualified for the Cup.

KML went out at the Cup Quarter-Final stage on penalties after a 2-2 draw. In the Plate competition FC De Rimmer and Het Sterretje fell at the Quarter-Final stage. Mannenliefde went all the way to the Plate Final where they drew 1-1 with FC Shark before losing on penalties.

At the 2018 Algarve Open they competed as Real De Groot & Elbersiktas. Real De Groot finished 5th of 8 teams in Group A with 2 wins, 2 draws and 3 defeats. They qualified for the Plate and went out in the Quarter-Final stage, 2-0, to Madrid's AC Motxo International. In Group B Elbersiktas had a similar record finishing 5 th with 2 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats. They received a bye in the Quarters and then met AC Motxo International in the Semi-Finals. The two teams played out a 0-0 draw in normal time before the Spanish won 3-2 on penalties.

Both teams were looking to respond to 1-0 opening defeats and this game also finished 1-0. It was VNV who emerged victorious and put their first 3 points on the board.

To complete Round 2 we had FC Maroon versus Bracknell Vets. The latter had a pretty tough baptism of fire in eurofootballfives.com competition when they ran into a Greek juggernaut.

FC Maroon had begun with a 1-0 win and were looking to emulate their fastest start to a tournament which was at the 2018 Gdansk Tournament. They opened up with 3 successive wins – 2-0, 5-0 and 3-1. Their campaign then hit a bump in the road as they lost 3-1 to Lilchicago and 4-3 to Fylingdales. It meant they finished third in their group and qualified for the Plate competition. In the Quarter-Finals they drew 1-1 with Deportivo Dooradoyle. A penalty shoot-out ensued but FC Maroon left us after a 6-5 defeat on spot kicks.

They were finding Bracknell Vets a tough nut to crack in the first half and the two teams could not be divided as they reached the break level at 0-0. In the second half the breakthrough came as Max Hill goalkeeper (clean sheet) in Round 1 turned goal scorer in Round 2. They were on course for win #2 but Bracknell Vets had other ideas.

Ash Balfour was on the scoresheet in Round 1 and he made it 2 in 2 games with an equalizer and first point for Bracknell Vets here.
