The
next game in Round 3 was a very intriguing one.
It was the team who finished Round 2 at the top
of the table – KLM (NL). They were unbeaten with
4 points from a possible 6. They were up against
Paralytic Athletic who had just seen their 17-game
unbeaten run in our tournaments come to an end.
It was a surprise to see them at the foot of the
table.
In
fact this represented Paralytic Athletic's worst
start to a eurofootballfives.com tournament (in
terms of results). It was still early though and
time was on their side. 3 wins would probably
still see them make the Cup but there was certainly
no room for error.
It
would not be easy against KLM who had started
well. It was Paralytic Athletic who hit the front
with Jack Veness opening their account for the
day. KLM were having a fine tournament in front
of goal and Nanne De Ronde claimed their 6 th
goal of the tournament as they levelled it up
before the break, 1-1.
Whilst
clearly better than a defeat, a draw was not quite
what the doctor ordered for the English team.
They would not have to settle for a point though
as they went on to win the game thanks to an Alex
Wood goal. What an important goal this could be
as the tournament progressed.
Final
score, 1-2. Paralytic Athletic moved up to fourth
position, just two points off top and just 1 point
off the second Cup qualifying position. Things
were looking much brighter for them.

This
was Club Esportiu Llefia's fifth Barcelona Fives
campaign and their group record so far read:
2015:
Played 4, Won 2, Drew 2, Lost 0, For 9, Against
7, Points 8 (1st)
2016:
Played 7, Won 4, Drew 1, Lost 2, For 20, Against
6, Points 13 (3rd)
2017:
Played 7, Won 1, Drew 1, Lost 5, For 8, Against
17, Points 4 (8th)
2018:
Played 5, Won 4, Drew 1, Lost 0, For 14, Against
1, Points 13 (1st)
2017
was a blip due to injuries but the results from
2015, 2016 & 2018 showed they were an excellent
team but you did have a chance against them.
FC
Dad (Eng) and Club Esportiu Llefia (Spa) both
came into this fixture with 1 win and 1 loss each
to their name. This was a pivotal game to see
which team would surge up the table to challenge
for the Cup places. The loser would stay in midtable.
The
first half proved to be a close affair with nothing
to separate the two teams, 0-0. When the referee
drew the game to a close though we did have a
goal and it was Club Esportiu Llefia who emerged
victorious, 1-0. A goal from Francisco Lorenzo
and a clean sheet for Ramon Batet saw them to
3 points.
