Group B began with Sintetrimeni (Gre) versus Bracknell Vets (Eng). Both teams were on debut and so they had a blank canvas upon which to paint their footballing artistry. Let the games commence……

Sintetrimeni are the second team in as many years to represent Greece in this tournament. They had a lot to live up to as last year AC Mazi 1996 swept to a stunning victory with 8 wins in 8 games, 37 goals scored and just 2 conceded. It was a simply amazing performance.

With this match underway it looked like Sintrimeni may well be able to live up to the achievements of their countrymen from 2018. They swept to a 3-0 lead at half-time with goals from Ioannis Parissis, Vasilios Christopoulos and Alexandros Charakidas. There was more of the same in the second period with Panagiotis Karachanidis making it 4-0 and Perikilis Karvounis becoming the fifth different scorer in the game. Ioannis Parissis then went on to complete his hat-trick for 7-0.

It was Bracknell Vets who would have the final say though as Andy Parslow assisted Ash Balfour to make it 7-1. Not all games would be this difficult!

Group B continued with Footballab versus Northern Town. The home team, both on the fixture list and in terms of residency, were Footballab who were making their debut in our tournaments. The travelling away team were Northern Town who came to Barcelona with the 2018 Gdansk Tournament to their names.

Northern Town made their debut last year as they secured 4 wins whilst just losing the once in the group phase. They finished second in the table to qualify for the Cup competition. In the Quarter-Finals they won a tight contest, 2-1, against FC Foreigntina. Another close match saw them defeat Lithuania's Lilchicago 1-0 in the Semi-Finals. In the Cup Final they met Bulota PK (the team who defeated them in the group phase). At the end of normal time the teams were locked together at 1-1. A 3-2 win on penalties saw them crowned champions.

It was a winning start to their Barcelona campaign as Cameron M'Crystal struck the winner in a 1-0 victory.

Last but not least in Group B, it was VNV (NL) versus FC Maroon (Eng).

FC Maroon had met this travelling Dutch group twice at the 2017 Mallorca Fives. They travelled with four teams in Mallorca and 2 of those teams were drawn in Group A – KML and FC De Rimmer. FC Maroon enjoyed a good degree of success against their Netherlands opposition although the games were close. There was a 0-0 draw with KML and a 1-0 win over FC De Rimmer. In that tournament, FC Maroon enjoyed their best group campaign to date. They won Group A with 4 wins and 1 draw from their 5 games. They went through the group without conceding so it was particularly harsh that the first goal they conceded would knock them out. Their Cup Quarter-Final finished 1-0 to Forn De N'aina (Arg).

Today's match was very much in keeping with those Mallorca meetings and that Mallorca form for FC Maroon. It was another clean sheet for FC Maroon (well done to Max Hill and his defence) whilst at the other end Ed Brangwin struck the goal that would win all 3 points for FC Maroon. A great start for them.
