Round 5 of Group B kicked off with the team at the top – Sintetrimeni. Although they were top they still had work to do but the good news for them was that destiny was in their own hands. They had 9 points from a possible 12 and superior goal difference compared to their nearest rivals. Their 2 nearest rivals were also playing each other so at least one would drop points.

To win Group B they needed to better the result of Northern Town. If they matched the result of Northern Town they would most likely win Group B on goal difference. They had almost certainly done enough to qualify for the Cup.

For Footballab, a win would secure a place in the Plate. A draw or defeat would leave them vulnerable to being overtaken by Bracknell Vets or VNV which could see them drop into the Trophy competition.

The game went with the form book as Sintetrimeni opened up a 2-0 half-time lead. Footballab pulled one back through Giorgio Bertelli but that was just a brief interlude in Sintetrimeni's march to a 4-1 win. Panagiotis Karachanidis scored all 4 for the Greek team as they effectively secured the Group B title. Well done to them.

The next game on Campo B was VNV versus Bracknell Vets. Following the defeat of Footballab in the above game there was now an opportunity for each of these teams to move from their current Trophy qualification places into fourth and a place in the Plate.

VNV were just 1 point behind Footballab so a win would secure that place in the Plate. A draw would see them end with identical goal difference to Footballab (-4) but Footballab had scored more. So, a draw of 3-3 (or less) would see Footballab reach the Plate. A draw of 5-5 (or more) would see VNV achieve that. A 4-4 draw would see identical goal difference of 5-9 so it would come down to head to head. VNV won the game between the two 1-0 so 4-4 would be enough for them.

The equation was much easier for Bracknell Vets, they simply had to win to climb above both of those teams. We reached half-time and we were no clearer of which of these three teams would be taking fourth and the second Plate qualification spot. It just needed a goal either way for VNV or Bracknell Vets to claim it. If it stayed 0-0 then Footballab were going into the Plate.

In the second half we got the vital breakthrough. Rob Vreugdenhil scored the goal that saw off the challenge of Bracknell Vets in this game and of Footballab in the context of the group. Final score, 1-0.

With one game left in Group B, we knew Sintetrimeni had secured Cup qualification. We knew VNV had finished in fourth and qualified for the Plate. We knew that Bracknell Vets and Footballab would play in the Trophy competition.

What we didn't know was who would join Sintremeni in the Cup and who would have to settle for Plate qualification in third. The two teams set to do battle were Northern Town who were on 9 points and just needed to avoid defeat to make the Cup. FC Maroon had to win otherwise they would be in third. In theory Northern Town had a mathematical chance to win Group B with a 12 goal win.

If we look at the 2018 Gdansk Tournament as the most recent form guide although they didn't meet face to face. Northern Town finished 2nd in their group before going on to win the title. FC Maroon finished third before going out in the Plate QF. It suggested Northern Town were favourites but they could take nothing for granted after FC Maroon's win over Sintetrimeni.

It was first blood to Northern Town with Niall Dunning scoring his first goal of the day – the only goal of the first half. In the second half Campbell McAuley's second goal of the tournament ensured safe passage for Northern Town into the Cup competition.
