At the start of Round 5, we had four teams trying to fill two spots for Plate qualification. Los Amblos had one of the hardest tasks as they were due to play Dream Team. Dream Team were currently in second. Could the fact that Dream Team had already qualified for the Cup help them if they eased off? Could the fact that they needed goals to move above FC Mahou to win Group A hinder Los Amblos's chances?

Los Amblos needed to win and hope other results went their way but things did not look good after the early exchanges. Dream Team opened up a 2-0 lead by half-time.

Dream Team were in no mood to help Los Amblos. The Spanish team were certainly gunning for first place in the table which would give them an easier Cup Semi-Final draw. Jose Martinez Martinez scored a second half hat-trick and was aided by goals from Miguel Angel Martinez Gonzalez and Adrian San Layetano's second of the game.

Dream Team ran out 7-0 winners and almost certainly ended Los Amblos's hopes of making the Plate. Their only real hope was FC Mahou crushing The Warriors by 10 goals.

Game 14 of Group A was Sandgate Salmons versus CT1. Sandgate Salmons still had a chance. They had to win this one though by 3 goals to go above CT1 on goal difference. They then needed FC Mahou to beat The Warriors by two goals or more. Sandgate Salmons could then finish as high as third position with 4 teams level on 4 points.

CT1 just needed a point to go through to the Plate. They could even afford a defeat if it was less than 3 goals and The Warriors also lost so they were in a relatively comfortable position.

Sandgate Salmons reached half-time level at 0-0 for the fourth time in five games. They were competitive throughout but time was against them to get the goals they needed to progress. From the other perspective, the position got a little more comfy for CT1 when Cristian Hurtado scored for the second game in a row.

Richard Dowding then equalized for Sandgate Salmons but they were unable to get a winner. They finished with a second successive draw but we had to say farewell to Sandgate Salmons who were eliminated. We look forward to seeing them back on tour next year.

The 15th and final game of Group A was FC Mahou versus The Warriors. The two teams were yet to meet in our tournaments….until now.

From an FC Mahou perspective, they needed to win by 6 goals or more to win Group A. This could be important not only for pride and honour but it would mean they would meet the second placed team in Group B rather than the Group B winners.

For The Warriors, they needed a win to finish third. A draw would see them finish in fourth place. A defeat would also see them finish fourth as long as they didn't lose by double figures. Any of these scenarios would see them reach the Plate. If they lost by 10 or more they would slip to fifth and be eliminated.

FC Mahou finished the first half 2-0 up thanks to Mike Brandon and Pete Cox goals (top scorers from the 2018 Algarve Veterans and 2017 Mallorca Veterans respectively). At full-time they had extended that lead to 5-0 thanks to two Steve Sachro goals and a ninth of the tournament for Mike Brandon.

FC Mahou were just one goal short of topping the group but they were through to the Cup after a good group phase performance. The Warriors had done enough to reach the Plate despite defeat.
