At the start of Round 3, we had Brewin Dolphin A versus AC Motxo International.

Brewin Dolphin competed for the first time at our tournaments in Lisbon 2017. They made a storming start with 3-0 wins over ADP Netherlands (Hol) and Retainers Academy (Eng) before a narrow 1-0 defeat to Barrymoore's Swimming Club who won the group without conceding a goal. They returned to winning ways thanks to a 1-0 win over Cruz Del Sur B. Results then tailed off as Brewin Dolphin finished 6th of 8 teams (1 more win would have seen them finish third).

They qualified for the Plate and recorded a 2-1 win over Lun-don FC before drawing 1-1 with FC Seagrave in the Semi-Finals. They won 2-1 on penalties to set up a final against AAK S&S. It proved to be one match too far as they missed out on the title.

The 2018 Amsterdam Sixes proved to be a struggle on the pitch due to exertions off the field and injuries. It meant they finished fifth of six teams in the table and missed out on a top four finish they needed to qualify for the knock-out phase.

Today's form was more reminiscent of Amsterdam than Lisbon although they had drawn two tough opening opponents to begin their Alicante campaign. Despite tough opponents, losing can become a habit and set the tone for the rest of the day. They slipped to a third defeat here as Ruben Torrer Mejias, Alfonso Martin Ruiz and Pedro Valiente Tejeda all scored in a 3-0 win for AC Motxo International.

 
 
 

Next up we had Galacticos versus Lostwithiel FC. At the start of Round 3 these teams were 4th and 3rd in the table respectively with just one point between them.

Galacticos had a stunning record in the group phase of our tournaments. Before today's games kicked off it read:

2009 Barca Fives: P3 W3 D0 L0 F14 A5 Points – 9 (1st)

2010 Valencia Fives: P4 W3 D0 L1 F11 A4 Points – 9 (2nd)

Today they had added another win and a defeat. That defeat meant they had little margin for error if they wanted to qualify for the Cup competition for the sixth time in six attempts at our tournaments.

Ominously for Lostwithiel FC, Galacticos came into this game on the back of an 11-0 win and they maintained that form here. Hamza Patel was the match-winner with both goals in a 2-0 win as they moved to the top of the table (temporarily at least).

 
 
 

We finished Round 3 with an intriguing game – 9 Nana Budds versus L'Albiceleste. Both teams competed at the 2018 Algarve Open and they met in the very first game of the tournament. A Lionel de Linh goal won it 1-0 for the French team last year.

9 Nana Budds would ultimately have the most successful day in Portugal as they went on to win the 2018 Algarve Open. With just 1 point from their first 4 games it didn't look good but they won their final 3 group games to qualify for the Cup competition. They progressed to the Cup Final after penalty wins in each of the Quarter-Finals and Semi-Finals. An inspired 1-0 win over Cruz Del Sur in the Cup Final saw them claim their 2 nd eurofootballfives.com title.

With 4 points from a possible 6 this morning, 9 Nana Budds were on a run of 8 unbeaten games in our tournaments but that was about to come to an end as L'Albiceleste continued their winning start to the Alicante Fives tournament.

L'Albiceleste had already chalked up 4-0 and 2-0 wins so far and they were about to claim another 2-0 victory. Goals from Cedric Castarede and Fateh Bekhouche combined with Mickael Martin's third clean sheet of the tournament earned them another victory.
