Round 5 began with arguably the most pivotal game of Group B in the final set of fixtures. It was Cheesecake FC versus ASAL Sports. It was the team in second versus the team in third. It was the two teams locked together on 7 points.

This was a winner takes all game in terms of Cup qualification. The winner would finish in second position and take automatic Cup qualification.

If the game was to finish in a draw then ASAL Sports would finish second due to their superior goal difference. Cheesecake FC would then finish in third position and have to hope that 8 points would be enough to secure one of the two best third-placed finishes on offer to make the Cup.

Defeat would mean 7 points which would almost certainly not be enough to qualify for the Cup. In fact, defeat might not even mean third position. The Mavericks and Alicounty both sat on 4 points and could overtake the loser of this game.

So, these two teams could finish anywhere between second and fifth in the table. Cheesecake FC had qualified for the Cup on 9 out of 10 previous eurofootballfives.com appearances. The pressure was on them to make it 10 out off 11. They had only conceded once today but scoring goals was their problem. They had scored twice and failed to score in two games. That was to increase to three games as Jason Dewey kept a third clean sheet for ASAL Sports.

At the other end a Pharouk Hussein goal ensured second place was going to the USA and they had qualified for the Cup on debut – a fine achievement. Cheesecake FC would need to await results of other games to learn of their fate.

 
 
 

On Pitch B, Atletico San Bas had the luxury of knowing they had already won Group B. They would have a free hit against The Mavericks. We don't think Atletico San Bas would be taking it easy though. They had a 100% record to maintain and would want to keep their momentum going into the knock-out phase.

The Mavericks had more at stake. With Cheesecake FC's defeat it was still possible for them to finish in third place. They had to win this game by 2 goals or more and hope Alicounty failed to beat Bede FC on Pitch C. The odds were stacked against them especially given the caliber of their opposition.

Alberto Mateo Del Puenite gave Atletico San Bas a first half lead which made The Mavericks task even more difficult. They needed to score three second half goals against a team yet to concede – easy huh?! As it turned out Atletico San Bas scored a second (Alberto Mateo Del Puenite again) to finish the game off, 2-0.

Into Game 15 of Group B and there was still Alicounty versus Bede FC to decide how the table would look in the annals of history. Alicounty had a similar challenge to The Mavericks. They needed to win this game whilst hoping Cheesecake FC and The Mavericks lost to secure third place in the table. As it would prove, other results had gone their way.

Alicounty needed to overturn a goal difference against Cheesecake of -2 compared to +1 so they would have had to win by at least two goals. As it turned out they did better than that.

Jamie Roberts broke the deadlock before Richard Pilcher made it 2-0. Jonathan Croft scored for 3-0 before Mike Meredith made it 4-0. Dan Cooke collected his second and his team's third clean sheet of the day.

Alicounty's 3-0 secured them third place in Group B. They would now have to wait and see if it would be enough to see them through to the Cup as one of the two best third placed finishing teams. Group A had already finished with third placed on 10 points. So, all eyes for Alicounty would be on the final set of results from Group C.
