In
Round 1 we saw how Fylde FC Old Boys fared last
year in Amsterdam. Their most successful tour
on the pitch was arguably their debut at the 2017
Krakow Trophy. The A team took 2 wins from 5 games
in a tough group that featured teams from Brazil,
Poland and Switzerland. Fourth place saw them
qualify for the Plate. In the Semi-Finals they
recorded a 7-1 win over Deddington Sea Otters
before meeting Deddington Sea Eagles in the Plate
Final. The Sea Eagles proved a tougher proposition
and penalties were required to settle the competition
after a 2-2 draw in normal time. Sadly for FC
Fylde it was runners-up medals as they lost 5-4
on penalties.
The
B team had a cracking start to the 2017 Krakow
Trophy as they recorded 12 points from a possible
15 on their way to winning Group B. They went
on to reach the Cup Semi-Finals where they met
a multi-national Big Time Krakow team representing
Poland. In a really tight game, FC Fylde missed
out on a debut final as they lost 2-1. Incidentally,
Big Time Krakow also won the 2019 Gdansk Tournament.
Fylde
had opened up with a 1-0 win in Round 1 and if
they could produce another would end Round 2 with
at least a share of top spot. They were up against
GAT Assurance. The team from Tunisia had struggled
in Round 1 admittedly against a strong Panadero
Loco Sport team.
They
had now had time to settle into the tournament
and produced a solid display in their second game.
In fact, the two teams could not be separated
and we had our first 0-0 draw in Group C. The
teams took 1 point each.
