Bede FC came into Round 2 on the back of a fine 4-0 defeat to a strong looking USA team. Cheesecake FC were looking to build upon a solid opening point from a 0-0 draw. Including today, these two teams had 20 eurofootballfives.com appearances between them. We'd like to thank them both for their support over the years.

If we look at Cheesecake FC's record in our events this was another tough game for Bede FC:

2010 Prague Masters: Cup Semi Final (lost on pens)

2011 Algarve Open: Runners-Up

2012 Mallorca Tournament: Cup Semi-Final

2013 Berlin Fives: Cup Semi-Final

2013 Mallorca Tournament: Plate Runners-Up

2014 Mallorca Tournament: Winners

2015 Lisbon Tournament: Cup Quarter-Finals (lost on pens)

2016 Algarve Open: Runners-Up

2017 Amsterdam Sixes: Cup Semi-Final

2018 Amsterdam Sixes: Runners-Up

It was an impressive record and I don't think Bede FC will mind us saying their record over a similar period was not quite as stellar as their opponents. Today though, Bede FC made it difficult for Cheesecake FC.

In the end just one goal would separate the teams in Alicante – that goal came from Cheesecake FC's Mark Nordenfeldt. There was a second clean sheet for Gavin McEvoy between the sticks for Cheesecake FC.

Alicounty were up next against The Mavericks. Both teams had been solid enough defensively in their opening games against tough opposition but both teams were looking for their first goals of the tournament.

A win for The Mavericks would see them move level with Cheesecake FC at the top of the table. A two goal win would see them at the summit on goal difference. A win for Alicounty would see them just one point behind the leaders with plenty of games still left to play.

As with these two teams first games, this proved to be another close contest between sides who were reasonably well matched. The game was ultimately decided by just the one goal. Cometh the hour, cometh the man and that man was Richard Pilcher. The clean sheet credit goes to Dan Cooke. Alicounty had their first 3 points on the board.

The game that would complete Round 2 was Atletico San Bas (SPA) against ASAL Sports (USA). These were the top two teams at the end of Round 1 – both had been amongst the goals, both had clean sheets and both teams had looked impressive. Arguably these two teams looked like the ones to beat in Group B.

With the game underway we saw nothing to change our minds. It was a high quality contest between two teams who were very similar in standard. In general play there was little to choose between the teams. It looked a case of which team culd take their chance(s) would end up on the winning side.

It proved to be that Atletico San Bas would have the cutting edge. Angel Gomez Gutierrez became the first man to score past Jason Dewey in the ASAL Sports goal today. Gutierrez's goal was the winner as Atletico San Bas claimed the maximum 6 points available from the 6 points on offer.

It was a first defeat for ASAL Sports but if they played like this in future games you felt there may not be too many more.
