We were down to our final 4 teams in the Plate competition with 4 different nationalities represented – Spain, France, Tunisia and England.

The first Semi-Final would see AC Motxo International take on L'Albiceleste. The two teams had met in Group A earlier today with the French team winning 2-0. In Group A L'Albiceleste had finished with 10 points compared to 3 points for AC Motxo International so this added to the belief that the French would be favourites.

AC Motxo International were unbeaten at Plate level in our tournaments. At the 2018 Algarve Open they produced a 2-0 Quarter-Final win over Real de Groot (Hol) and a win on penalties in the Semi-Final against Elbersiktas (Hol). In the Plate Final they beat Pique Blinders 1-0 to spark wild celebrations. Here in Alicante they had produced a 3-2 win over Turn Down For Watford already.

It was the team from Paris who struck first as Fateh Bekhouche put L'Albiceleste 1-0 up. It was a lead they held until half-time. AC Motxo were 1-0 down at half-time in their Quarter-Final and recovered. They hit back here against L'Albiceleste as Luis Ricardo Denche Pulido equalized for 1-1. The game looked to be heading for a draw and a penalty shoot-out.

Fateh Bekhouche had other ideas though. He struck a late winner with only a couple of minutes to go and end AC Motxo International's hopes of a second successive Plate win. L'Albiceleste were through to another eurofootballfives.com final.

The second Semi-Final was GAT Assurance versus Alicounty. GAT Assurance were coming into the game on a decent run of form. They lost two of their first three games but were now on a run of 3 games unbeaten. They had a 1-1 draw against Elysian FC, a 2-0 win over Brewin Dolphin B and a 1-0 win over Cheesecake FC. That latter result against Cheesecake FC was a real eye opener against the 2014 Mallorca Tournament champions.

Alicounty were on a decent run themselves. They had three consecutive clean sheets and scored 10 goals without reply in a run that had seen them take 2 wins and a draw from their last 3 matches. If we use Cheesecake FC as a reference point, Alicounty lost 1-0 to them in Group B. This game could be a close one.

The game did indeed prove to be close but Alicounty had the edge. Mike Meredith opened the scoring in the first half. In the second half Jonathan Croft extended that lead to 2-0 and with Alicounty's defensive record that looked to be enough. Dan Cooke kept his third clean sheet and his team's fifth clean sheet in 7 games.

It was all over for GAT Assurance. We'd like to thank them for making the trip over to Spain and become the first team to represent Tunisia in our events. It was our pleasure to host you.
