Our fifteenth ever Trophy Final now awaited us and we had been treated to some superb Finals before.

Many of them had been very close with 6 of the previous 14 going to penalties. In Valencia 2012, Sporting Abeergut held off a late rally from FC Dad to win it 3-2. At the 2014 Budapest Fives, Contejus Hurricanes (with a man sent off) held on to a close 2-1 win over Cava Sundays.

They had all been close affairs until 2014 when we saw Ziar Crew beat Fireball 5-1 in Bratislava and Elcombe Old Boys beat SV Zoo 5-0 in Barcelona. These remain the biggest victories in Trophy Finals. The highest scoring was Audley Witney (Eng) 5-2 Hotpockets (Ire) at the 2018 Gdansk Tournament. We have had Trophy winners from Belgium, England, Ireland, Latvia, Oman, Slovakia and Spain.

The most recent Trophy Final saw Rain Dragons win 4-2 at the 2018 Barcelona Fives tournament. Today, the stage was set for Tysers and Scoregasm.

If we were looking for a form guide as a clue to how this final might go then here it is:

The stage was set and both teams were ready to go – who would be picking up the winners medals in the presentation?

Tysers came into the game in particularly good form – unbeaten in four games, clean sheets in the last 2 games, just 2 goals conceded in 4. They were looking strong and with experience in the Lisbon 2018 final you fancied they might go 1 step further this year.

It was Tysers who took the lead. Lee Shaw struck the winning goal in the Quarter-Final and he was on target again here. Scoregasm hit back though through Jack Longman who now had goals in the Semi-Final and Final. Scoregasm failed to score in their first 3 games but now had goals in each of their last four games. It was 1-1 at half-time.

Tysers regained the lead in the second half thanks to Greg Bowles. There was still time left in the game and the next goal would be vital – Tysers win? Draw and penalty shoot-out? Reece Stoneman scored in the previous game and he now had a goal in a European final for Tysers as he sealed the 3-1 victory.

Our commiserations go to Scoregasm who gave it a real go and who were steadily improving as the tournament went on. They collected Runners Up medals for the trip home.

For today though, we present you the 2019 Algarve Open Trophy Winners– many congratulations to Tysers. Enjoy the Trophy, enjoy the medals, enjoy the success, enjoy the rest of your time in Portugal's stunning Algarve.
