So, onto Round 5 we go and the last attempts for the teams to stake their claim for the Cup qualification or for Plate qualification depending on their situation. First up was ZVC Indoor Gent and Southgate County 1s. Both teams were gunning for the Cup.

The two teams were locked together on 6 points and separated by just one goal on goal difference. The task in this game was simple – win. They needed to win and hope Mini FC lost their final fixture to have a chance of clinching second place in the table. Goal difference would also be a factor. The team who lost this game would finish fourth and qualify for the Plate. There was no danger of slipping into the Trophy. A draw would not help either team as both would then qualify for the Plate with ZVC Indoor Gent taking third spot.

With almost identical records in the table we expected a close game and that is exactly what we got. The game was settled by the one goal and it was ZVC Indoor Gent who would maintain their unbeaten record.

Jens Schollier was the man of the moment – his goal earned his team all three points. ZVC Indoor Gent now had a chance to reach the Cup but they needed assistance from elsewhere.

Amongst all the drama at the top for Cup qualification places we had some respite with Tysers versus Purnell Youth. Both teams had played pretty well today and been competitive throughout. They would no doubt feel a little hard done by to only have a point each to show for their efforts.

The two teams knew that whatever happened here they would both go through to the Trophy. Obviously pride and honour was at stake but we are sure each of these teams would want to get the 3 points on the board and go into the knockout phase with some momentum.

There was nothing to separate the teams as we changed ends. We were locked together at 0-0. We did get goals in the second half but the teams were still locked together as we finished all square at 1-1. Jack Peterson scored his second of the day to put Tysers 1-0 up but Bradley Hooper cancelled out the strike for Purnell Youth.

The two teams would finish level on points and level on goal difference. Tysers finished higher though on goals scored.

The 15th and final game of Group A was ACD.Sta.C.a.Nova versus Mini FC. For ACD.Sta.C.a.Nova this was a “free hit” in terms of Cup qualification as they were already through. If they could avoid defeat they would win Group A.

There was more at stake for Mini FC. If they could win this match they would climb above their opponents in the table and win Group A. A draw would see them follow ACD.Sta.C.a.Nova into the Cup in second position. A defeat would make them vulnerable and possibly fall into the Plate.

Mini FC started the game on 9 points with a 7-3 goal difference. ZVC Indoor Gent were on 9 points with a 5-2 goal difference. So, a 1 goal defeat would be OK for Mini FC as they would go through on goals scored. A 2 goal defeat or greater and it would be the Belgians qualifying for the Cup with Mini FC dropping to third.

Mini FC must have feared the worst and ZVC Indoor Gent must have started getting excited when ACD.Sta.C.a.Nova took a 1-0 lead in this one. It did not last long though as Toze equalized. His only goal of the tournament and what an important one it was. Half-time, 1-1.

Mini FC successfully negotiated the second half without conceding and in the process ensured Cup qualification. Their hopes of another title were alive and kicking. Full time, 1-1.
