As well as Mini FC's two tournament wins in our Veterans tournaments they have participated on two previous occasions in our Open Age section. They debuted at the 2014 Algarve Open when they won 4 games and drew 1 game to finish top of Group B. They were then defeated 2-1 in the Cup Semi-Finals by the eventual winners Stand Cristina.

2015 was their first Veterans win before playing in the Open Age section again in 2016. They were equally as successful in the early stages winning Group A with 10 points from a possible 12. The Cup competition was played in a second group phase in 2016 where 2 wins and 2 defeats saw them finish 3rd overall.

2018 was Veterans title #2 and they returned for a third crack at the Open Age section here in 2019.

Here at the 2019 Algarve Open they had won 1 and lost 1. They came into this game on the back of that defeat. Tysers should maybe wary of a backlash. Joao Simoes opened the scoring in the first period to make it 1-0 to the Portuguese at half-time.

In the second half Simoes took his tally to the day to three goals and extended the Mini FC lead to 2-0. The win was secure when Carvalho made it 3-0 as Mini FC returned to winning ways.

Game 8 of Group A was ZVC Indoor Gent (Bel) versus ACD.Sta.C.a.Nova (Por) . ZVC's most recent appearance in eurofootballfives.com action had come at the 2017 Amsterdam Fives. They had 4 wins out of 4 in the group phase before their final pool match. They lost it 5-3 to eventual tournament winners BSP FC. It meant 3 teams finished on 12 points and ZVC Gent finished in third place on goal difference. They had still done enough to qualify for the Cup. In the Quarter Finals they went out to the Amsterdam Sixes champions, Vieze Vu (5-4).

So far so good today for ZVC with 4 points from 6 including a win over 2-time title winners Mini FC. They were now up against the league leaders in the form of ACD.Sta.C.a.Nova who had a 100% record so far today…

…not any more though. David Van Der Borcht kept his second clean sheet of the day for the Belgians but at the other end the ACD.Sta.C.a.Nova defence was equally stubborn. It was the first and only 0-0 draw in Group A.

To complete Round 3 was Purnell Youth versus Southgate County 1s. Both teams needed the points to surge up the table. Purnell Youth were currently in fifth position but could rise to third with victory. Southgate County 1s started Round 3 in third place but had slipped to fourth with Mini FC's victory above. A one goal would see them return to third, a two goal win or better would see them move up to second place.

All the matches in Group A had been relatively close so far and this game was no different. By the time we reached the full-time whistle just one goal would settle this tie. That goal came in the opening period and went to Bradley Doherty. At the other end Cliff Lovett's second clean sheet on the bounce ensured Southgate County 1s were upwardly mobile in the table.

It was 2 wins out of 2 for Southgate County 1s as they moved up to joint second and a slither outside of the Cup qualification places.
