Match
2 in Group C saw Water Boy versus Speldhurst
Rangers. It was the longest-serving team in
the Algarve hosting one of the newest. Water
Boy had first appeared in 2011 and had been
ever-present since. Speldhurst Rangers were
on debut.
At
their most recent event in 2018, Water Boy played
in the Veterans category. They finished third
in their 7 team group despite just 1 defeat.
They qualified for the Plate competition and
picked up a 3-1 win over Chorltonian AFC Vets
before a 1-0 win over Mavericks. In the final
they defeated Dickie Dogs 2-0 to collect the
trophy. With our Veterans event moving to Alicante
this year, Water Boy were back in the Open Age
section.
It
was our newcomers, Speldhurst Rangers, who got
off to the perfect start in this match. Barney
Mellors the man who would have the honour of
scoring his team's first goal in Europe. It
was a lead they maintained until the break as
they lead 1-0 at half-time.
The
second half turned on an own goal. Speldhurst
Rangers conceded an own goal and Water Boy never
looked back. Tiago was the man in form in front
of goal for the Portuguese as a second half
double earned a 3-1 win.
