The
penultimate game would be Red Star versus Lindfield
FC. At the start of Round 5 we were looking
for 1 team from 4 to join Hellgarve Kraken's
in the Cup. Parkwood A's demise in the previous
fixture meant that equation was 1 team from
3. Show Me Da Mane were to follow this game
against the Group B champions so you felt this
game could well be the decider for second place.
A
win would probably be enough for the victor
of this game (bar a sensational result from
Show Me Da Mane). If this game ended in a draw
then Lindfield FC would be out of the equation
as Red Star had a superior goal difference.
For Red Star a draw would be enough provided
Show Me Da Mane didn't win in the final group
game.
Red
Star took control in the first half thanks to
a goal from Rui – his third of the day. This
gave the Portuguese a bit of a cushion. They
lead 1-0 at half-time.
Lindfield
FC equalized after the break with Jon Cunningham
also scoring his third of the tournament. At
the moment though it wasn't enough, they needed
another. The game was on a knife edge – the
third goal of the game would be vital. Look
away Lindfield FC fans as it was Red Star's
Rufino who put his team 2-1 up.
There
was now no way back for Lindfield FC who needed
to score twice. The game finished 2-1 and Red
Star had almost done enough – they had to wait
though for it to be confirmed.
