The
next game was hugely important at the top of
the table. It was third place (Southgate County
1s) hosting first place (ACD.Sta.C.A.Nova).
At the start of play there was only 1 point
separating the two teams. In fact, the top four
were separated by just 1 point.
A
win for either team would be massive at this
stage with just one more round of fixtures to
play. For the Portuguese it would ensure Cup
qualification. Southgate County 1s would go
two points clear at the top with a win of their
own (Mini FC would have a game in hand though).
The
first half came and went with no score. The
second half looked like it was going to go the
same way but a free kick in the final minute
changed all that. The Portuguese had a chance
to win it at the death and with the Southgate
County wall braced for a shot on goal, the ball
was played wide of the wall and into the box
for Goncarlo Rodrigues to sweep home. It was
a clever free-kick with a Portuguese player
on the end of the wall preventing Southgate
County getting across in time to block the shot.
It was Rodrigues' third of the tournament and
it spoiled Cliff Lovett's potential third clean
sheet.
It
was a blow for Southgate County 1s and a sickener
coming so late in the game.
